Ok i know this has been asked a couple of times here but i need to know something
Right now on my Honda Civic SiR i have the Dunlop SP9000 215/50/15 's - but i find that these tires wear too fast - i want to replace them with something that will give me more life but as well the grip and response that i recieve from the SP9000....
Any advice??? |

I have Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 (205/55/16). I put these on my Primera after I changed from the Dunlop FM901. The SP9000 was my first choice but I had a hard time finding them in the size I wanted.
The F1s are really quiet compared the 901 & 9000 and give gr8 wet traction. They're almost $1000 a tire at ACL but worth it.
The F1 = 280UTQG. The SP9000 should be similar I think.
Typically, directional tires have uneven threadwear.
Your driving style and heavy braking plays an integral role on tire wear.

I have only really used the Nexen N3000s and the Michelin Pilot Sports. These are both great tyres, but the Pilot Sports far outclass the nexens. Great grip, kinda quiet I guess, as far as tyre life goes, with any performance tyre they don't last long.
If you are serious about tyres, please check out this link for more info on the leading brands of tyres and how they compare:

Yeah, its a kinda trade off. To have to give up something.
What you can do is make sure your suspension bushings are in order and your toe in/out and camber are in check. These factors will prematurely wear your compound Tires. And I'm sure you know, if you lowered your car without a camber kit that will throw off your camber. |

Did you review the F1s as I suggested? |

"Unfortunately directional tires do exhibit a drawback because their tread pattern is designed to only roll in one direction. It limits their tire rotation pattern possibilities. Without being remounted on their wheels, directional tires can only be rotated from the front to rear axles on the same side of the vehicle. This makes them more susceptible to irregular wear (sometimes called "saw tooth" or "heel & toe" wear).
To minimize this possibility, it is important that tires with directional tread designs be rotated more frequently than other tires, especially early in the tire's life. While tire rotation can't completely eliminate the possibility of irregular wear, it helps even out wear on most vehicles because the tires are experiencing different stresses as they are repeatedly reassigned from the "driven" to the "non-driven" axle, as well as to and from the vehicle's steering axle." www.tirerack.com |

I ran two sets of these tyres also and found the opposite. They actually lasted longer that the kumos 712's which was a 340 TW. Hmmm you sure you don't have some cambering / alignment issues or even tire pressure. And regarding slip in the wet i actually did a first gear pull on boost in rain expecting slip and only grip and that was after a couple of months too. very strange.. |

i had the sp 9000 and they worked well no problems with them 205 50 15
i had the nexens and they also worked well 204 40 17
again in the price range the above tyres worked well for me with no problems
i am now running the new michelin pilot exalto's PE2
have them on the car a little over 6 months now
excellent wet and dry road traction
and even tyre wear
205 50 15 on my sir rims
the problem with most people and thye dont even realise it is incorrect tyre pressure
most of the times people have thier tyres under pressure because the claim is d dam tyre riding hard
but they dont take into consideration the profile of the tyre they are using
the lower the profile the stiffer the side walls the harder the ride
i run between 30 and 32 lbs of pressure on my tyres where most people may drop to 28lbs
good even treadwear
my car is lowered and the camber is off a little bit no signs of uneven cutting |

i donno fellas - i want to switch from the SP9000 - when new they are great but as the months roll by i see a change in gripping power - i went to Tone, last week to check my camber and alignment - and he told me it is perfect.. the tires are wearing evenly --- i donno if i got a bad set of SP9000... So far since i bought my SiR - which is a little over a year now - i change my SP's 3 times. Personally i think this is too much... thats why i decided to switch.

strange - all the tire people tell me to run them on 28lbs - currently i am running 29lbs back and 28lbs front. |

| here is another question - now the optimum specs i should be running on my SiR rim is - 205'15'50 - currently i am running 215'15'50 <- do this have anything to do with my tire wear? - somehow i dont think so but i still want to ask. |

| I think pressure is the main issue. People run 28 psi cause of the softer ride they get with it, but with our roads and from man. specs between 30-32 psi is recommended. |

so what your're saying - cause i am running 28 psi in front and 29psi rear - causing the extensive wear on my tires? |

^^ SR gave a very good review on the michelin pilot exalto's PE2 you may want to try them next.. But still a very strange problem becuase you are getting even tirewear on all tires. hmmm also you may want to try the recomended tire for the rim. 195/55/15 if i kept my car that was the next tire i wanted to get.
Silkermike, don't forget to ask him for the little angle sticker to put at the back of your super car. |
