I wet sanded lightly with 600 grit wet-or-dry sand paper followed by 1000 grit until I could no longer feel or hear the pitting under the sand paper.

Then polished with ultra-fine grit white polishing compound, followed by standard car polish (McGuire's).

NOTE
The trick is to sand left to right. Do not sand in a circular motion.
Use PLENTY of CLEAN water; don't be sparse with water, keep the surface and the sandpaper wet. It should glide under your fingertips; there should be no real dragging after the first few seconds.

When you think you're done, you're not, keep going until you feel nothing under your fingers. Then change to the finer grit paper and do it again.

After using brake fluid ( ) ah really don't think it's possible to mess up his lights more eh. Try it on a small area first........

i got advice from a fellow tuner to use the brake fluid, it worked......but had a funny after effect. i got everything sorted, lights are like brand new. if you guys arre going to use brake fluid, mix it with 75% water, and wipe off as soon after. i made the mistake of leaving it on for tooo long.

Well lets clear it up a bit further, dont freaking use brake fluid on your headlights or any other part of your car but your BRAKES. That it sheit advice, use the other methods above.
The brake fluid/acetone idea is that it will melt the surface of the plastic, allowing it to flow and smoothen the rough/dull looking surface, and effectively bring back a 'wet' shiny look to the plastic, sounds right, but youre degrading the surface plastic, what happens when that dries out and becomes dull again, it looks worse than the first time around.

^^^ See how he say that? "seems to be a toyota thing" :D

Anyways, I used some polishing compound, lightly, it worked a bit then some WD-40... that kinda worked too... 100% better than before...

There seemed to be a sort of stain on the headlights. Wasn't really affecting the lighting, but it looked awful on the Trueno :)

the brake fluid is like a soft acid, i had a layer on my lights, like a colony of fungus....so i think the brake fluid had helped. i wouldn't advise it as my results sucked. but is a poor man's way out, never mind i had to spend 30 bux after to sort things out.
