Cleaning my K&N filters.....pics

Postby Rx » November 28th, 2004, 5:26 pm

I cleaned my filters today....I was inspired to upload these pics 'cause I've heard of many car owners cleaning their K&N filters using soap water and a high pressure air hose

Image

Image
THIS IS BEFORE CLEANING

Image
REMOVE DEBRIS USING A HAND BRUSH 8)

Image
SPRAY K&N FILTER CLEANER...LET SOAK FOR 10 MINUTES 8)

Image
RINSE OFF USING LOW PRESSURE...FROM INSIDE OUT...NO COMPRESSED AIR OR HIGH PRESSURE WATER :!:

Image
ALLOW TO DRY NATURALLY ....NO OVEN ...NO HAIR DRYER.. :!:

Image
USE THE RECOMMENDED K&N FILTER OIL BEFORE USING....NEVER USE ENGINE OIL, WD40 OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF LUBRICANT :!:

Image
USE THE "POLISH IN A TUBE" TO KEEP YOUR INTAKE PIPE NEW AND SHINY

Ahh boy that is the damn thing self. I always hear people using compressed air to clean it out... that does damage trhe filter and push dirt INTO the filter. Right now I need to get some more cleaner... that finishes first but the oil last longer

Yeah tappet pan and/or crankcase breather, either of these that normally are vented to the intake path, by putting them on a separate filter you can have less oil fumes in the intake.

This thread should really be made a sticky for ppl who will come along later and ask the same question about cleaning K&N filters. FAQ it or something, just keep it around for others' reference.

One other question, does the oil have to dry totally before you put it back in?

K&Ns only look pink when they are new. When they get older. even if they are clean they look darker, almost grey.

hahahaha......pink

Anyways......after you spray the cleaned filter with K&N oil you have to leave it to soak in the oil for 20 minutes before installing or using it :!:

I had it running for about 6 months - 10000km before I had it cleaned.

It was also visibly dirty :)

I must comment that after having my drop in K&N there is no visible nor tactile dirt/grime whatsoever after filtration within the intake. Meh MAF like new too!.............can't go wrong!!!!!!!!!
