Read my posts... I use premium only.
I know you've posted a few threads about your maintenance issues, so I honestly can't think of what is causing such excessive gas consumption. The high idle is a factor. That is way too high. My engine idles at 800rpm. |

defkerron thaz real bess mileage u getting 400 -450 piarco to pos and back i think if i have to make that same run it would cost me alot more that you.. |
thas real small running boy, you better do a diagnostic to determine the problem. it will cost you less to find the problem than keep spending so much money on gas.
yeah boy Terran, i got the sport flywheel so i do alot of cruising especially on the highway.
Of course the nice thing about the 20v is the fact that it adapts to how u drive, so if i wanna take it easy like keep it around 3000-3500rpm between shifts you wouldnt believe how little gas it consumes. and well the other way around when i running hard betwen 5000-6000+ it will burn some more but not very very significant.
The Shaffeur oil real good though, was using Royal Purple and Mobil but this oil working real tops.
but you know, you can actually get more mileage using normal NGK plugs rather than the Iridiums i am using....with a small sacrifice in performance. |

Just got 330KM on full tank of super (40 ltrs) $108.
Which is about 40km more than i am accustom getting (i put it down to new PCV valve)
I don't understand why some men gettting 400~450Km on a tank.
I know that you suppose to get better gas milage with a manual as oppose to an auto which is what i have but 100+km that is rediculous unless the size of there tank significantly bigger.
defkerron, how big a tank you have? |

yeah boy my tank is a 50L one so it will hold around $130 of super.
my idle is around 930rpm.
i have never run it down to under quarter tank, and usually then it has around 360-380 or so on the tank mileage. It has been so ever since i got it around a year and a half ago. |

defkerron, that's more like it on a 50l tank mines should do ~415km.
I can live with that. |

Yuh see, all yuh men using super. I using premium. I'm not going back to super. When I tried that, I thought my engine was going to die and I've had enough car issues in the past.
If you guys were using premium, and assuming you'd get the same mileage as you would with super, then fordmitc, your 330km would cost you $160 - like what I am currently experiencing.
And defkerron would probably pay closer to $190 to refill his tank.
Still, these kinda figures are below what I expected to get out of a 20V. |

| Terran, It hurts my heart to use super but it hurting my wallet more to put premium. Define difference in performance, but right now as long as the engine not knocking i willing to run the super well as least till i get another job |

dmitc, when I switched to super after the price increase of premium gas, the car actually responded better and fuel economy improved significantly.
After about 3 or 4 refills, everything went downhill. The performance sucked terribly. Instead of cruising at 160km, the car maxed out at that speed and strained to get there. The tach would not swing to 8200 rpm as it normally would, and would crawl to 7000 rpm maximum. Fumes galore. When I kicked down, instead of getting 3 downshifts, just one, and VVT was hardly felt.
Not to mention the knock. I could swear there was a live steelband in my engine bay. It happened all within 1 tank of gas - everything went down.
I switched back to premium and by performance gradually restored itself by about the 3rd refill of premium. I always got knock with premium, and I still get some, but with the super... man, I got really scared.
So, I sucked it up to pay $4 per litre of premium and have never looked back. I try to be more efficient in my driving and not stomp on the gas unnecessarily. But it doesn't take away from the fact that the engine simply burns more gas than it is rated to do, and I believe a lot of that has to do with the quality of gas we get in Trinidad. |

my VVT comes on as normal but does not seem as potent as it originally did,
i catch my ass to reach up to 180km i would accelerate good till about 160 then crawl to reach up the next 20.
No fumes though and rpm range is the same just does not reach up as fast.
All in all i won't recommend super for my engine but money funny these days |

I run a PCL Altis - 5mts. old. I currently get on average 450km per tank of gas (premium) with a prestone fuel treatment. Most of my driving is at peak traffic hours during the week. On a few ocassions I filled up on the weekend doing more highway running and I got 515km to my tank of gas.
The Prestone gas treatment (red bottle) actually gives me around 40km-50km more on atank of gas.
I used super a few times and noticed performace gradually decreased.
I was saving about $65.00 per tank.
Then I tried using the Prestone Octane Boost ($30) and performance got better.
Pull off was better and the kick down was more agressive.
Savings went down to $35.00 per tank.
To me this is a good option for those who really need to save some $.
But for optimum performance reliability and peace of mind nothing beats premium.
I chose to use the premium and car runs excellent. |
