AC randomly stops cooling!

Postby pandu » August 3rd, 2008, 1:25 pm

Yeah, the ac just at random stops blowing cold air, and then just as randomly, starts back to cool. I gas it up, and it work good for a while, but that didnt solve it. problem start back. The evaporator only a year old or so.

I google it and see something about the condenser being blocked up? Any ideas? Car is a corolla wagon, ee102

With my car I had tht problem.
I took it in and the first ac person charged me to gas up etc and tht didn't work.

I went to a second person and he said the condenser needed replacing. He replaced it and tht solved my ac problems.

First ac people were a waste of time. They next to tht tailor heading Penal. Opposite a laundry place on Main Rd.

compressor could be malfunctioning they can check this easily by hooking up pressure gauge
there is also a valve near the evaporator which could be sticking and stops the cooling gas from passing

this happened to my Almera just about a month ago, the exact problem u are having, it sometimes just suddenly stops cooling.. The problem with mine was the expansion valve, i got it fixed at Ryanair in trincity, cost quite a bit but they did a very good job and its working perfect now.

Went by the ac ppl, apparently is ah ELECTRICAL problem, a relay or something... The fan to cool the engine supposed to come on with the ac, but it not coming on...

Hence, when the place hot, like 12-3pm in the day, the ac will randomly stop cooling, and in early morning and evening, it will work fine.

Yeah, I went this morning in couva, and the fella put in a relay. So now both fans coming on when the ac is on.

We should make an ac thread listing all the possible causes for the problems...

I went by a fella name rakesh down st helena side to check the ac. Cool tech in balmain is the worst imo.

The electrician I went by was the guy opposite JTA, by Isaac junction there. If you want the AC fella #, let me know.

^^^ But it would still be sucking in fresh air and cooling it, so while you wouldnt get the nice cold blast, you still wouldnt be sweating like a pig.

have the problem in meh b15 but it was the control panel shorting, the mechanic not the a/c man checked it and came up with that prognosis.. he even showed me when he shaked it the ac goin on and off.
ah temporarily using a piece of syrotex in the back to keep it steady and will replace it when ah get ah chance to go in de bamboo. :D

I unplugged the AC fan and ran it directly to the battery. It dead. A fan in the Bamboo costing $400.00. Going there tomorrow to see if I can get one cheaper. I think I have one other issue and that is when I checked the the to see if the fan was getting any power it wasn't. I'll have to sort this one out with an electrician. Otherwise the AC works only when the radiator fan is working. Pandu you have a number for the electrician? Where is Isaac Junction?

I dont know if you know where JTA complex is, by KFC, in couva. If you coming from preysal flyover side, drive straight down to couva, and you will see it, cant miss it. Its opposite JTA. there is another electrician by Couva market, when you go up the side road opposite the police station.

I bought a fan in the bamboo and installed it. Problem solved right there. So I didn't need an electrician after all. That's good info you're giving me there though. Thanks for your help.

Since we on AC here. I have a CK Lancer and mine acts like if the lines freeze up. I dunno.
AC will be on a blowing freezing cold ok,then after a while, bout 30mins or so, the breeze is greatly diminished. Turn it all up and it blowing weak.Hearing the blower fan and thing rinning eh.
Y I think it freezing up too eh. I just switch off the AC(button), i.e. fans still blowing. And within probably 10-20 seconds it starts to blow hard again, like if it thaw out the ice enough. Switch back on the AC button and it working normal  .
Anybody else experience this. Oh the AC was regassed some time ago. Leak test was done too. Nothing seen at the time. I have to get it checked yes. Any suggestions?

hmmm, check your compressor, this happen to most of the toyotas (lowlux vans, new models too) in our yard...the coil in the compressor looses its magnetic feild and fails to engage, if you check it you might see the belt spinning but there is a plate bolted in front the pulley on the compressor that supposed to spin when you turn on the a/c and stop spinning when you turn it off, this slips and the a/c therefore comes on and off...
