It maybe coming to Trinidad (the new iPhone) which would mean that the iTunes Store would have to add Trinidad & Tobago to its list of supported countries.

Palm's upcoming Pre handset is again making headlines this week after it was discovered that early production units contain native support for syncing with Apple's iTunes software as if they were built by the iPhone maker itself.

Fortune notes that this isn't an entirely new revelation, given that it was mentioned back in January during the Consumer Electronics Show, but only recently has the tech media really clamped down on the matter.

"Plug a Pre into a Mac and it syncs, seamlessly, with Apple’s iTunes," the financial publication reports. "In fact, the iTunes Store treats the Pre just as it would an iPod or an iPhone with one exception: it can’t handle old copy-protected songs."

While there have been a handful of third party hacks that allow iTunes to recognize some of Palm's existing handsets, the Pre is believed to have such code built natively into its firmware. At issue is how Palm may be achieving this particular result and whether Apple will condone encroachment on its tightly controlled ecosystem by one of its rivals.

The development of the Pre, due to launch just days before the iPhone maker is expected to take the wraps off its latest line of handsets, has been spearheaded by a number of former Apple employees who are privy to the underpinnings of the company's technology. Among them is Palm president Jon Rubinstein, who spent years overseeing the development of iPods over in Cupertino.

Many industry watchers believe the Pre represents the greatest threat to the iPhone yet. It features similar touch-screen technology and an attractive new webOS that appears to take several design cues from Apple's iPhone software with some added bells and whistles to boot.

During a recent conference call, acting Apple chief executive Tim Cook vowed to vigorously defend against any competitor who treads on his company's intellectual property, but stopped short of calling out Palm by name.

"I'm not talking about any specific company. I'm just making a general statement," he said. "We think competition is good, it makes us better. But we will not stand to have our IP ripped off. We'll use whatever weapons we have at our disposal. I don't know that I can be more clear than that."

Steve Wozniak had to opportunity to speak with Steve Jobs recently and said the Apple chief executive sounded “healthy" and "energetic” a little over a month before he's scheduled to return to the company.

The Apple co-founder made the comments Wednesday from the sidelines of the Wall Street Journal's All Things D conference, where Jobs has been a guest of honor on many occasions.

Although Wozniak admitted to having never asked Jobs about his health directly, he told representatives for the financial paper that his one-time pal “doesn’t sound like he’s sick,” nor does he appear to be battling a dire health problem.

The upbeat comments contrast with those made by Jobs' real estate attorney Howard Ellman last month during a town council meeting to determine whether the chief executive should be free to demolish a historic but abandoned mansion he owns in the Woodside Hills.

"I don't think he would be strong enough if we were here until 1 a.m., and I think there's a strong possibility of that," Ellman said, referring to the time it would take for the local review board to hear all arguments on the matter.

Jobs said in January that he would take a medical leave from his daily role at Apple through the end of June in order to attend to health issues that turned out to be "more complex" than he originally thought.

Although he underwent successful surgery for pancreatic cancer in 2004, Jobs' health would again emerge as a topic of public concern when he appeared increasingly gaunt during Apple media events in 2007 and 2008.

Wall Street analysts have used recent quarterly conference calls to press members of Apple's leadership for an update on Jobs' health, to which they've responded by saying they still expect him to return at the end of June.

It remains unclear in what capacity Jobs will return to the company. Some analysts have speculated that if he does return, it will be in the form of a reduced role such as Chairman.

A mockup image of the new iPhone which incorporates the recently leaked bezel has been posted online by MacRumors member, Carniphage.

The image depicts what is rumored to be a new black bezel with a redesigned ear speaker. You can take a look below and let us know what you think!

A screenshot of the forthcoming Sirius XM iPhone app has been posted online by BusinessInsider.

The image was found in a presentation by Mel Karmazin at the Sirius XM shareholder summit.

From the image we can see that you'll be able to browse music by categories, channels, and favorites. There is also a shopping feature that might be linked to the iTunes Store.

According to the company, "The SIRIUS XM app will deliver an expanded programming lineup that includes SIRIUS XM's exclusive sports talk, news, comedy, and 100% commercial free music channel, as well as new talk, comedy, and music showcase channels."

Google today demonstrated its Latitude location-based service running on the iPhone, according to a report by TechCrunch.

Google Latitude is a service which allows you to see where your friends are and what they are up to then quickly contact them with SMS, IM, or a phone call. The service is already available for Android phones; however, Google is waiting for the iPhone 3.0 OS before launching on the iPhone.

Google has been waiting for the 3.0 software is because it’s not actually creating a native iPhone app for Latitude — as all other location-based services on the iPhone are — instead it’s using the Safari web browser to run Latitude. Thanks to HTML 5, Safari will be able to access a user’s location information and Latitude will be able to access that as well (provided the user gives permission). This will put it on par with what Google is doing in its browser for Android.

A web app doesn't seem like the best solution for Google Latitude on the iPhone but we will have to wait and see what happens.

A research note from RBC Capital analyst Mike Abramsky suggests that Apple may drop the price of the 8GB iPhone to $99(with contract), according to a Barrons report.

In a research note this morning, he notes that the company is widely expected to unveil updated iPhones at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8. Expectations are they will keep price points at $199 and $299, with 16 GB and 32 GB models. Abramsky thinks even an evolutionary upgrade will drive a healthy upgrade cycle; he estimates 20% of the 21 million iPhone installed base will upgrade within the first year.

But he also says that the company could leverage its component and manufacturing efficiencies by offering an 8 GB version of the phone at $99, down from $199 currently. He thinks the result could provide a major lift to unit demand, with 5 million additional iPhones in FY 2009, and 22 million in FY 2010.

A Chinese-language blog UMPCFeaver posted pictures recently that they claim are the first ever photos from a functioning next generation iPhone. The site translated through Google displays images of iPhone OS 3.0 running some of the rumored new iPhone features.

According to the report, the new iPhone contains an autofocusing camera that uses an on-screen square that can be moved around with a combination of taps and dragging to choose the object to focus on. The rumored digital compass and its software is shown as well. Other features in iPhone OS 3.0 are demoed on the site like MMS - supporting video and photos, copy and paste, the Voice Recorder app, etc.

The credibility of this group is unknown, but the features shown on the site have already been demoed by Apple or consistent with rumors circulating around the internet about the next generation iPhone and iPhone OS 3.0.

These are indeed exciting times ahead...

Apple may begin charging full price if you try to redownload an app you have already bought over the iPhone, according to a report by The iPhone Blog.

The warning message pictured below has been appearing to some users on the iPhone 3.0 beta firmware. Previously if you had purchased an iPhone app you could remove it and then easily redownload and install it on your iPhone as many times as you like.

Now the warning dialog suggests that you must re-download it using your computer; otherwise, you will have to pay full price for the app again.

The iPhone Blog believes that this is due to the on-device account management coming to iPhone 3.0. The ability to log in and out of multiple iTunes accounts on your iPhone could lead to the sharing of iPhone purchases with others who haven't paid for them.

Unfortunately, this could inconvenience the many who have legitimately purchases and simply prefer not to have all their apps always installed.

A possible leak of Fidos roadmap for 2009 includes evidence of a $99 4GB iPhone with video calling (iChat), according to a BoyGeniusReport.

The most notable slide has to do with a 4GB iPhone 3G. While there is a huge disclaimer that the image isn’t the device itself, the slide depicts a 4GB iPhone model that will run for $99 and come with quad-band EDGE, tri-band HSDPA, a 2 megapixel shooter and, believe it or not, iChat video calling (oh hi, front-facing camera). You might recall all of that talk of a $99 iPhone at Walmart that we brought you a while ago — it looks like the timing was a bit off but it may actually happen.

This news comes just on the heels of an Engadget article which suggests that Apple has received approval for new iPhones in 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB capacities.

Apple has received approval by the PCS Type Review Certification Board for 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB iPhones, according to an Engadget report.

We're hearing from a trusted source that new iPhones in 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB capacities just garnered approval by the PCS Type Review Certification Board, the standards body responsible for certificating handsets for use with some carriers (AT&T, for instance). If true, this would lend credence to the belief that Apple will be introducing at least two new models this summer -- ostensibly at WWDC, until we're told otherwise.

This information is particularly interesting since a possible leak of Fido's roadmap for 2009 shows evidence of a 4GB iPhone 3G with video calling (iChat) for $99. (above article)

video playing is a stock feature on all iPhones. This is done via either the YouTube app or the videos section of the iPod app. In the case of the iPod app you would have to transfer the videos you want via iTunes (which was updated just yesterday) but I suggest using the previous latest version 8.1.1. Check http://filehippo.com for a link to that version.

Apple has released iTunes 8.2 for download; however, the iPhone Dev-Team recommends not installing it at this time.

iTunes 8.2 now supports iPhone or iPod touch with the iPhone 3.0 Software Update. iTunes 8.2 also includes many accessibility improvements and bug fixes.

For information on the security content of this update, please visit this website: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1222

"Today’s iTunes 8.2 update changes the way your computer talks to the device. This affects things like QuickPwn and PwnageTool when they try to identify what’s connected. Also, ssh over usb breaks due to same reasons. Fixes are in the works but for now avoid 8.2. (These are probably *not* anti-jailbreak maneuvers, just Apple changing protocols that normally only Apple cares about.)"

Well for one as of right now 3.0 is only available as BETAs (the 5th being the latest if I remember correctly), therefore no stable, final release version is available as yet. While you can upgrade to the 3.0 BETA 5 it isn't advisable since they are basically unstable & can be deactivated by Apple when they so choose.
When the stable release of 3.0 is out more than likely the iPhone Dev Team will come out with their QuickPwn/PwnageTool applications for Mac & Windows. Usually when you upgrade a jailbroken/unlocked iPhone (2G or 3G) it does relock & looses the jailbreak. But via QuickPwn/PwnageTool that is restored.
3Gs however have baseband issues which being a 2G owner I don't know too much about. However I suggest following the iPhone Dev Team's instructions when 3.0 does come out.
