TriniTuner Motorsport Marshal Team
Objective: To promote the development of ALL local motorsport by providing a reliable team of trained personnel who can ensure the safe and professional administration of local and international events.
Need: The idea was born out of the immediate need of the Trinidad & Tobago Rally Club which saw the necessity for a team of trained, reliable marshals at their events. As events get larger, attract more competitors (both local and international) and attract more spectators, the need for competent persons who can manage positions along the course also grows. Additionally to successfully host an event of international caliber this team must be well trained not only in safety and emergency response, but also in spectator control, communications, timing, and all around event administration.
This extends beyond the Rally Club, to all aspects of motorsport which immediately may include karting, solodex and in the future with the return of drag racing and circuit racing in Trinidad & Tobago.
What is Needed of You: As a volunteer, you’d be required to be reliable, safety focused, and professional in the execution of your duties as a marshal. We need able bodied persons (preferably with their own car, but it’s not a requisite), who can authoritatively command their marshal positions keeping event organizers and emergency personnel aware of situations that may arise, and compromise the safety of the competitors and spectators alike.
Initially the basic training takes no more than 3 hours, and the commitment is not more than about 25 days for the year. (TTRC currently has 6 special stage events for the year, one of which is a 2 day event; similarly other clubs/ associations have 6 -8 events per year).
While the execution of duties requires a level of responsibility, the key factor to becoming a successful motorsport marshal, is a passion for the sport, and commitment to it's development.
What You Get from This: As part of the team, you’d be trained initially in basic marshaling principles. This applies to all aspects of motorsport including but not limited to special stage rallies, navigation rallies, circuit racing, karting, drags and autocross (solodex). As the team grows, and the need develops for more competencies, the team would be exposed to specialized training in first aid, first responder (i.e. responding to the scene of an accident) and fire fighting techniques. Our long term goal is to have everyone certified with the cost of the training subsidized by the clubs and corporate sponsors.
Marshalling is also the cheapest way to get involved in the sport. Many competitors started their careers by marshaling, which allowed them the opportunity to get close to the action, appreciate what is involved, and even forge relationships with the drivers and other participants. Additionally, many competitors who aren’t competing on the day assist in marshaling duties.
Marshals are in fact the unsung heroes of any motorsport event, and gain respect from the drivers and all others involved.
Corporate Involvement: The TriniTuner Motorsport Marshal Team will be marketed to corporate sponsors for their assistance in providing refreshments, uniforms, equipment and training.
Do you think you’re up to it? Do you think you can contribute in your little way to the development of motorsport in Trinidad & Tobago?

Reply early.. the next event is on Saturday September 1st 2007.
Basic training will be during the week of August 27 - 31 2007.
Initially, new marshals will be working alongside more experienced marshals to gain insight into how the events are run, and the role of the marshal.
Just an insight into what we're trying to accomplish. This year, the Barbados Rally Club had an independent team of 300+ marshals for the Rally Barbados 2007 event. The Rally Trinidad 2007 event on the other hand was accomplished with just 40 marshals who were overworked and stretched to the limit... but committed because of their love for the sport. |

no worries.. come join the team...doesn't matter if you can't make it for every event..
we recognize that not everyone will make it every event
that's why we're welcoming everyone... if we have a 60% turnout of marshals at each event with training out of a core of say 100 persons... we're well on our way. |
