STOLEN CAR: Trincity Mall AGAIN!!

Postby NorStar2K » July 14th, 2007, 2:25 am

A colleague's car was stolen Saturday night somewhere between 6:30-7:00pm.

Description:
White Mazda 323GLX PAZ 2554

w/5-spoke 14" rims.

No distinguishing marks like stickers or anything else.

The man just stop off to use the ATM and buy some food, and that was that.

An APB was issued. Nothing yet though.

Damn!! :x :x

streetbeastINC., the 'behind de scenes' unfortunate reality is the security is not there to protect your vehicle and its contents, they are there to protect the property and assets of the mall. i.e. from loitering, fighting, defacing, theft of store property etc.

Most of these guards aren't even precepted and do not have the power of arrest. So all they can do is make a citizen's arrest, just like the regular man on the street. They carry telescopic batons, not firearms, they will not attempt to detain a car thief. And at minimum wage they don't care to either. Also the mall proprieters stand fast by the BS car-park 'Disclaimer'.

NB: Arouca CID has several recovered cars at the station, so if you know anyone who suffered a loss let them check there.

Thanks flatline.

Be reminded folks: The loss of your vehicle is only part of the crisis. If you leave your house/office keys, bills, IDs, bank cards and other documents, the bandits now have access to your home, your workplace and even your identity. The run-around after to recover lost documents is also very stressful.

Company property is another sore point. How do you explain the loss of the company's $10K DELL notebook with sensitive company financial information, etc.? Or, the pile of files on the backseat? This happened to a Customs friend of mine when she lost her car she lost months of C&E records and reports.

As I said before, don't depend on the mall security, secure YOUR property yourself and take NOTHING for granted. Your car is an investment: SECURE it.

Got this in my e-mail today:

Date : Friday 6th July, 2007
Time: Between 4pm - 5pm
Location : Jenny's Wok Car Parks, South (two of them) manned each by a (one) car park attendant.

The Incident :the owners of 3 vehicles, a RAV-4, a CR-V, and a Nissan Primera, had their vehicles back door glass smashed, and their bags, 2 of which had laptops and multimedia equipment, stolen. One of the guys just had documents in his bag, his bag was not stolen when the bandits realized there was no valuable equipment to them. But his glass was still smashed anyway.

The bandit : They pretend to be talking on their cell phones, having a conversation, while walking through the car park, checking out what people leave in their front/back seats and floors. They love to work when it is rainy (these days it's raining almost every day).

What the owner/manager says: They have a disclaimer sign. Nothing they can do. blah. Car park attendants, who are young school boys, claim to have seen nothing, even though they were there, and the incidents happened within this same time frame.

What people have to always remember to do : Never Never leave any valuables, bags, papers, even grocery bags inside on the seats/floor of the cars. Store everything in the trunk of the vehicle. The one time it slips you, you will have to pay dearly for your oversight.

There have also been recent incidents just this past week of parts of vehicles, especially Almeras, being targeted, lamps, indicator lens etc. being stolen from the car, when parked up at the Piarco Airport. Not to mention it continues on a daily basis at Gulf City and Trincity malls.

We know how truly efficient our police service is. Please be vigilant.

Found out today TCM expanding again. They haven't fixed the Eastside muddy/dusty/pothole carpark cuz the mall expansion shall envelop the eastside all the way to the perimeter road.

More mall, same unsecured carpark, more targets.

A lil security film on your car can't be a bad thing. They might get through if they shoot out the glass but by then, somebody will notice the noise. I have security film and still don't park in the mall. I'll quicker park by my brethen in cazabon and travel
