|
|
Ok, so I want to put some music in my car because I listen to music pretty often and the stock speakers (b14) SUCK... and I think some of the cones are ripped... :s they sure sound like it, lol.
Let me start by saying I know NOTHING about car audio.
Ok, so here's what I have:
Two: old recently reconed and (almost) never used
A-1030 Sound Barrier
200W/8 ohm speakers.
Which I know don't play bass very well, so I think they could be used for mids.
Two: old tweeters, missing condensers (well, what I think were condensers that broke off because they were attached with stiff wire... the "condensers" (one of which is lost and the other missing half the plastic cover with labelling on it) have on them : an "S" in a triangle; guess that's the logo, 3.3uF, 100V, NP, and something that looks kinda like a temperature rating, but I can't tell because of the label being ripped off)
Used a fair amount, just connected to a guitar amp and later a stereo, they still sound good, I think, anyway,
PDBT18 Pyle Dryver Pro aluminium bullet titanium horn tweeter,
300W
4.8 ohm impedance
sensitivity 99dB
20 oz. magnet structure
freq resp 2K-25khz
And here's what I'm under the impression that I need:
A subwoofer for bass
An amp, (a single amp if possible to take care of all the speakers)
A crossover to set ranges for the speakers
Wire, and a guide or someone to connect the stuff for me.
Fairly limited funds, so I'm looking for the best sounding setup with the least cost. If possible, would really like to spend less than $1000 :s
Is that asking a lot or should I just buy one of those little full range boxes with 4-6 speakers and get an amp and crossover? Or is there anywhere that could sell me a decent setup for cheap?
Not lookin to pong out anybody, I just like fairly loud music.
I know it's a lot, thanks a million if you guys reply! |

Forget all that stuff you got listed there and get youself some car speakers for all the stock locations and an amp for them. That alone should put you over budget but you can buy a bass amp and sub afterwards when you have more $ to spare. Best thing is a 5ch amp for you though.
$1000 limit for what you want is asking too much. Don't expect to get everything at once. |

start digging in the audio classifieds..
look for a 4 channel amplifier
2 channels from the amplifier can be used to play 2 coaxial speakers (for the rear of your vehicle) and a pair of component speakers (for the front of your car) for all your midrange and highs..
the other 2 channels can be used to drive 1 subwoofer in a box..
buy list
-4CH amp
-pair coaxials
-pair components
save some more money and then purchase a subwoofer in box.. if you can build the box yourself, that will save you some more $$. get a friend to help.
-a single 12" subwoofer in a box can sound pretty loud..
most manufacturers will send the designs for a speaker box in their manual.. follow that or ask here for suggestions..
most of these items can be found in the classifieds, do some research and you will have a really nice sounding setup..
(btw, ask for a dual 2ohm OR single 4 ohm sub woofer. those will work with most 4CH amps..)

Thanks guys, this is pretty much the advice I was looking for. I think I like the 4 chan idea.
X Factor, I have no idea what a headunit is, lol. If you mean the deck, it's a tape deck that the car came with :s
Could anyone verify that last point about 2ohm\4ohm single\dual subwoofer?\
So I should really forget that stuff I have already? I probably will if it's the general opinion to do so, because, again, I know nothing about car audio. But just out of curiosity, why should I not use them?
Also, I saw no mention of that crossover thing that I've heard people use to set the ranges for the speakers. Is it that most amps come with something like that built in? Or is it not needed?
Wrt to funds, I suppose I will build up gradually instead of all at once. |

Yes its dual 2 or single 4 since using two channels off a 4ch amp to a sub most times go down to 4-ohm minimum... just a little typo there i guess.

Your current stuff is house/DJ equipment and not the very best or very good to say the least. Most likely the sound barrier is not a mid speaker and won't provide the kind of response you want for your mids. The bullet tweeters are not necessary for a small setup like this and will be a bit harsh on the ear.
The amp you buy should (make sure of this) have a built in crossover which is good enough for your system.
You are going to want to change that deck pretty soon though. |

| proper power wires and fuses should also be taken into consideration since they can easily send you past budget if not catered for. |

Guy , it have nothing like wanting music for yuh car and spending no more than 1000.
That money wont get yuh anything more than a deck, or 2 pairs of full range speakers.
theres still amp, subwoofer, its box, wires..
get a deck first and find a way to make it run your mids, and when u get more $ get the amp. |

yeah, i made i mistake with the ohms..
| Quote: | | Could anyone verify that last point about 2ohm\4ohm single\dual subwoofer?\ |
speakers need to have a certain impedance (the ohms figure we talking about) to match with your amplifier. a 1ohm stable amp (see amp manual to know this) will require a 1ohm speaker and so on..
most typical 4 channel amplifiers will require 2ohms per channel... but most typical car speakers are 4ohms.
when you put two 4ohm speakers together, you will get 2ohms!
subwoofers come in a wide range of impedances & number of coils. when you go to buy, you have to specify what you want. just ask for either a dual 2ohm subwoofer OR a single 4ohm subwoofer..
dual 2ohm = 2 2ohm coils
dual 4ohm = 1 4ohm coil
there are no advantages or disadvantages here, just choose which ever matches your amplifier..
most typical 4channel amplifiers come with a built in crossover, so no worries there... |

this might be a problem as most factory decks will not properly connect to an amplifier..
my 1st recommendation is to get a good deck 1st, but if cash real tight, look for an amplifier that accept speaker level inputs.
see below as an example..
http://www.bossaudio.com/main/1025
speaker level inputs allow you to connect any deck to your amp, but it is not the 'best' option.. but doable..
RCA or line inputs are ideal.. |

do what rovin says a pair of 6.5 coaxials and a pair of 6x9 probably cost you $300 each pair from rovin or toyz wit noise install and see how that sounds for you
then after get a new car stereo thas how i did it with my b-14 |
