#463: Oakley and Surfline Create iPhone App Author: SRASCLocation: Trinidad (A Civiclized Country) PostPosted: Mon Nov 10, 2008 4:23 pm

Oakley, Inc. and Surfline today announced the release of an Apple iPhone application that provides worldwide mobile access to surf reports. Developed by Oakley in conjunction with Surfline, the application utilizes a media rich format to present real-time information from Surfline, the leading provider of surf reports, forecasts and editorial content on the sport.

Pro surfers have responded favorably to the new application. In the words of Sebastian Zietz, Oakley global surf team member, "It's 'sick' being able to check the waves without having to turn on a computer. No matter where I go, I always know how the waves are."

"Surfline is excited to launch the first mobile iPhone surf report application with Oakley who shares our passion for surfing and creating the best products available in the marketplace," said Brian J. Mezger, director of technology, Surfline.

The initial release of the free downloadable mobile iPhone application will provide continually updated information on surf and weather conditions, as well as information on the surf community and culture including news, photos and videos.

Users can bookmark their favorite beaches or find locations by city, state, zip code, name or region. Additional information includes surf conditions, weather, safety notices and reports. General weather forecasts are available, along with projected surf conditions for the following three days. Directions to beaches are available via convenient map links. A separate screen offers news and information on surfing events, videos optimized for the iPhone from Surfline, as well as imagery on the sport and biographies of Oakley team riders.

To download the free application, owners of an iPhone (or iPod(R) touch) running iPhone OS 2.1 or later can simply open the "App Store" application. On a computer, users can open iTunes(R) and download the application through the "Music Store" section. Direct links are available at www.oakley.com/SurfReport, and www.surfline.com/iphone.

So I believe there are a few of you out there wanting such things like landscape texting, ability to send msg's to multiple contacts at once, erasing single messages, disabling the annoying auto-correct and security to name a few.

And you say all of this plus more in one single app?

Well, now there is Introducing MySMS from iSoft!

You can download a demo version from Cydia (BigBoss Repo) now

Or check it out on their website iSoft - iPhone software (iModem)

Hey I'm looking for a cool app I saw a while back, I don't remember the name but there was a video that demo'ed the app. There is a 3d character walking and the app uses the camera view as a background so no matter how you turn the iphone the character looks 3d. Anyone remember it?

I also would recommend Shazam.

It was recently featured in one of the iPhone 3G ads. It identifies songs. Simply hold the iPhone/iPod touch to a song source (speakers) while playing & Shazam will recognize it. Best part, its FREE.

Could get apps from the app store on any 2.0 or > iPhone. Could also access the app store in iTunes as well via the iTunes store. And lastly you could use Installer and or Cydia on a jailbroken iPhone as well. In terms of sites, you used to be able to do that but Apple is shutting those down a lot lately. In fact yesterday I believe The Monkey's Ball was shut down it being perhaps one of the bigger sites to offer free [cracked] versions of app store apps.

#471: Adobe Bringing Flash; Google Brings Voice Search | To iPhone Author: SRASCLocation: Trinidad (A Civiclized Country) PostPosted: Tue Nov 18, 2008 7:43 am

Adobe has pledged to optimize a version of Flash 10 for smartphones using ARM processors like those of the iPhone -- but iPhone itself isn't getting that upgrade. Also, flash memory maker Spansion has implicated Apple in lawsuits against Samsung that could block the import of iPods.

Adobe shows Flash 10 on ARM smartphone chips

At the start of its Max conference for developers, Adobe on Monday demonstrated Flash 10 for ARM processors as well as a similarly mobile port of AIR, or its container for stand-alone Flash apps.

The technology is due in the second half of 2009 and will give smartphones and home electronics based on ARM11 series chips features closer to full desktop-level Flash through a mix of optimizations and the hardware graphics acceleration of newer devices.

But while the new code is cross-platform and would work on iPhone's ARM1176 processor, Adobe notably demonstrated on Google's Android, Microsoft's Windows Mobile, and Symbian -- not Apple's hardware.

According to Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch, the continued absence of Flash on the iPhone now has less to do with technical barriers and more with Apple's opinion of whether the animation software is worth the effort.

"This needs a little more baking. We need to pass the taste test of Apple's head chef," the official says, referring to the iPhone maker's Steve Jobs.

Apple's co-founder has been openly critical of Flash as it exists on mobile devices. While Flash Lite already exists for cellphones, it doesn't support the plugins user expect. Conversely, desktop-ready Flash is full-featured but, until now, too stressful for iPhones and most other smartphones to handle

The new Google Mobile iPhone App with Voice-Recognition is now available through the AppStore, according to LifeHacker.

The search-by-voice iPhone app we heard about on Friday may not have shown up as planned, but it is now available from the iTunes App Store. The iTunes page itself doesn't show the app as updated, but download and sync it anyway, and you'll notice a shiny new Google Mobile on your iPhone complete with voice-recognition.

no crashes - everything happened seamlessly

I backed up with iTunes - back up, not sync.
I also use outlook daily so all my contacts, calendar, messages etc etc are saved anyhow.
SO when I upgrade and resync I dont lose anything
