With the new MacBooks released for over 24 hours some interesting secrets hiding within have been discovered.

APC mag has published an article called, "Top 10 things you didn't know about the new MacBook".

Here is a quick rundown:
1. Yeah, target disk mode… about that…
2. The system migration tool has been updated
3. The system chipset has changed, not just the GPU
4. Break the glass screen fascia; replace the whole screen
5. The MacBooks run a special build of OS X, not yet released to other Macs
6. The battery indicator is now on the left side of the notebook
7. The chicklet keyboard on the MacBook is very firmly supported
8. The speakers are surprisingly good
9. The viewing angle on the LCD is still lacking
10. Installing a hard drive is now even more superbly easy

The iGPS360 module is a state-of-the-art GPS module that brings GPS capability to the iPhone and iPod Touch.

- The module is designed as a direct plug-in for your iPhone (both first generation and 3G) and iPod Touch (the module will not work on other iPod platforms or Apple devices). We also expect the module to work on the second generation iPod Touch once it has been jailbroken.

The iPhone Dev-Team has made some significant progress on a 3G unlock this week.

Here’s a screenshot of a 3G iPhone whose baseband has been modified. And even though it’s modified — and fails the integrity check — it’s still running.

Running modified baseband code is a very useful ability, but it’s still not possible to accurately estimate how close we are to the ultimate goal.

We had seen not one but four iPhone apps released last week which made it possible to compose and reply to email messages in either portrait or landscape mode on the iPhone to address one of the limitations of iPhone's Mail app as it does not support landscape mode.

However, the price iPhone users had to pay for this feature ranged from $0.99 (for TouchType, Wide Email, Compose) to $1.99 (for Side Ways).

Conceited Software has recently released Firemail which brings the landscape mode to iPhone's Mail app for free.

Firemail allows iPhone users to compose and reply to email messages in landscape mode. It also allows you to save email messages within the app (mimicking the save as draft functionality).

When you launch Firemail from the home screen, you get the compose screen in the landscape mode where you can type the Subject and the body of the message.

To compose a new message; all you need to do is write the subject and body of your message and hit the button on the bottom left hand corner. Here you get options: "Send to MobileMail", "Save to Bookmarks" and "Cancel". If you select "Send to MobileMail", it opens and auto-populates iPhone's Mail app. If you select "Save to Bookmarks" it results in saving the text of the email message.

If you want to use the email message that you had saved as bookmark, you can click on the bookmark button at bottom center and select the message from the list of bookmarks. After you select the bookmarked message, you will get options to "Insert", "Delete" and "Cancel", selecting "Insert" will result in the text getting inserted in the compose screen. The "Save to Bookmarks" would have been neat feature but the current implementation is not scalable (as only last 4 bookmarks are visible on the screen).

To reply to an email, you need to open an email in iPhone's Mail app and hit reply. Then hit the home button and launch Firemail. Here you can type the body of the message and hit the button on the bottom left hand corner where you will be prompted to similar options to composing an email message, however this time selecting "Send to MobileMail", will result in turn would open and auto-pupulate the message that you wanted to reply.

As I have mentioned before, apps like Firemail are definitely not the ideal solution and I would expect Apple to add landscape mode to iPhone's mail app sometime in the future, till then Conceited Software's Firemail is a good alternative if prefer to type your email messages in landscape vs. portrait mode and its a no-brainer as it is available for free as compared to other iPhone apps on the App Store.

The iPhone 3G is being sold as SIM-free in India; however, they actually have a built in wired Turbo SIM.

This information comes via a post on the Israeli iPhone Forum, www.ipsf.co.il.

Notice what has discovered in an iPhone 3G I bought after the seller told me that the iPhone is SIM-free.

I bought the iPhone during a vacation I went to in India and the seller even showed me the iPhone is working with a local SIM card without any TurboSIM or any device as such.

After the first restore to the device I wondered after I wasn't able to activate the device normally with iTunes and had to be activated using a 3rd company activator.

After opening the device I discovered what the problem was, and here it is:

Apple has seeded iPhone 2.2 Firmware Beta 2 and has fully enabled Google Street View, according to MacRumors.

The seed notes also indicate that Line-in audio accessories are now supported in the SDK.

PwnPlayer Beta 5 and MewSeek (the new iSlsk for 2.x firmware) are now available on Cydia.

PwnPlayer reads any folder inside your iPhone/iPod file system and will play mp3s the same way MobileMusicPlayer does, with playlist, artwork and add/remove/tag edit support.

MewSeek is a native P2P Soulseek client that lets you search and download music (or any kind of file) for free, straight from your iPhone or iPod Touch, using either your EDGE, Wi-Fi or 3G connection.

The iPhone Dev Team had told us last week that they had made significant progress in unlocking iPhone 3G.

They have just reported on their blog that they have managed to crack iPhone 3G’s baseband. You can checkout the significance of this breakthrough and what it means for unlocking iPhone 3G after the jump.The iPhone Dev Team had reported last week that they had made significant progress in unlocking iPhone 3G as they had modified the baseband of iPhone 3G and even though it failed the integrity check, it was still running.

Based on the latest update, it appears that the iPhone Dev Team are now even closer. They have managed to crack iPhone 3G’s baseband, this is big news because it means they have access to the core of the system required to unlock the iPhone.

It gives them the ability to manipulate the iPhone 3G hardware which will ultimately help them, unlock it so that SIMs from any carrier can be used.

AT&T has recently begun surveying some of its longer-term iPhone buyers asking what features they would most like to see added to the Apple handset.

The survey chiefly touches on post-purchase satisfaction with both Apple and AT&T and is described by AppleInsider readers as a follow-up to a similar survey from a few months ago, or shortly after the iPhone 3G launch.

It’s also said to be gauging reactions to iPhone firmware 2.1 and whether or not the update improved the phone’s features.

A single page of the survey, however, is committed just to judging which features customers would most likely to see added to the iPhone in the future. The questionnaire asks owners to pick the top five hardware or software add-ons they’d like to see and include many of the most prominent requests made in the community, including cutting and pasting text, built-in instant messaging, Flash/Java support and MMS messaging.

A handful of the items have already been partly or completely addressed. Users can already search contacts, for example, while it’s also possible to download ringtones from iTunes on a computer but not the iPhone itself.

Readers shouldn’t necessarily interpret this as a sign of Apple’s future direction with its multi-touch device; companies regularly poll their customers to determine the level of demand for particular features.

Apple has previously said, however, that it’s continually looking to add new features to the iPhone’s software and that it was a question of priority and that copy-and-paste, directional GPS, and other features have been put on the backburner in the past to address other components first or due to complications.
