Yes all "soft-unlocked" 3Gs should be able to use GPS + GPRS.

Some next-generation iPhone specs that came out not too long prior to WWDC 2009. How did they match up with what was eventually announced?

●32GB and 16GB storage (up from the current 16GB and 8GB models)
●$199 and $299 price points to be maintained
●3.2-megapixel camera (up from the current 2-megapixel camera) (ended up being just short at 3.15)
●Video-recording and editing capabilities
●Ability to send a picture & video via MMS
●Discontinuation of the metal band surrounding the edge of the device

●1.5 times the battery life of the current models
●Double the RAM and processing power
●Built-in FM transmitter

I am sure they moved from 128MB to 256MB of RAM, but you sure about 2x the processor speed? From what to what?

Speed is now 600mhz from 412mhz

Unboxing images of the new iPhone 3G S which may show a gold trim have been posted online. The images are shown in an Engadget gallery.

Its unclear if what looks like gold trim is a feature of a special edition iPhone 3G S or whether its just incorrectly set white balance on the photographers camera.

The iPhone 3.0 firmware will allow the redownload of purchased applications for free, according to a AppAdvice report.

A couple weeks ago it was discovered that users running the iPhone OS 3.0 beta were unable to redownload purchased iPhone applications.

The mobile App Store presented a message stating, "You've already purchased this. You can redownload it for free on your computer, or tap Buy to buy it again."

AppAdvice discovered that this message only occurred to users who had not updated to the new iTunes 8.2 software. This new version adds some logic that tells a device what iTunes accounts are authorized on the computer. Since those users’ devices never received the authorization information from iTunes 8.2 they were not able to pass it along to the App Store when they tried re-downloading apps.

So in order to redownload apps you must have installed iTunes 8.2 and have synced to a computer that has been authorized with your iTunes account.

Steven Troughton-Smith has jailbroken the Palm Pre while at WWDC in San Francisco.

I gave up Tuesday eve because I couldn't get the device into restore mode no matter what I did, but on Wednesday morning I figured it out: you have to hold the volume-up button while the device is off before plugging it into USB, and from there you can use Palm's firmware flashers to do whatever you like with it. As the device can run unsigned firmware (!!!) I was easily able to hack out the activation check, and get up and running and enable the root shell. In that respect, I may just have the first jailbroken Pre in existence.

Troughton-Smith says that for hacking, the Pre is incredible. It runs unsigned firmware, has root shell over USB, its entire UI and all apps are written in javascript, and you run write C/C++ native Linux apps.

I have a question....what version of itunes should I use on my 2nd Gen iphone, with version 2.2.1, so that I don't undo the jailbreak.????

You can use the latest version of Itunes. Just DO NOT directly restore the phone or let Itunes UPDATE the FIRMWARE.

It will ask you to update the phone software, just click no and do not remind.

thanks....also....I've heard some ppl talking, that if you turn off a jailbroken iphone it'll lose the jailbreak...is that true?

If I remember correctly that was the case with the 2nd generation iPod touch with its redsn0w jailbreak.

Ok pplz..... Here's what....
I got a 8GB 3g iphone friday and with a digicel sim in it it says no service............. BUT the phone is in recovery mode apparently. U kno d screen wit the usb cable and the itunes logo???? YEAH!!
When i take out the sim , i get the following message... "No sim card installed. Insert a valid SIM with no PIN lock to activate phone." What do i need to do to jailbreak and unlock from this stage??
Apparently the previous owner clicked that tempting "update" button in itunes.....

HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

Apple on Monday began shipping its new iPhone 3G S handsets to customers who were among the first to place their pre-orders last week following the handset's introduction at the company's annual developers conference.

"My 32GB black iPhone that I ordered the second I could on the Apple iPhone store has officially shipped," said AppleInsider forum member DiscoNomad. "I found out this morning via an email which included a tracking number."

The new iPhones, believed to be manufactured by Foxconn Electronics, are shipping out of Shenzhen, China, which is home to mainland China's second busiest port, ranking behind only Shanghai.

Although customers provided with shipping notifications weren't given a specific arrival date, Apple had promised delivery by this Friday, June 19th, the same day handsets go on sale nationwide at AT&T, Apple, Best Buy and Wal-Mart retail stores.

A quick check of the Apple Store appears to suggest that customers who place their pre-order today will still be eligible to receive their device on Friday. Prospective buyers should note, however, that orders placed online for new iPhones aren't easily manipulated given that each order is tied to an AT&T account.

Customers who wish to change the model of iPhone they've ordered may need to wait up to two business days to resubmit their order because it may take that long for AT&T to reset accounts as being eligible for upgrade or early upgrade pricing, some people have been told.

On Wednesday, just two days before iPhone 3G S will go on sale, Apple will release iPhone Software 3.0 for existing iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPod touch users.

MapQuest on Monday took the wraps off a new application for iPhone users designed as an alternative to the built-in Google Maps software and billed as a "leap forward in how people interact with maps, directions and local search" on their Apple handsets.

One tap search

Among the highlights of the free application (App Store), called MapQuest 4 Mobile, is a "place carousel" that makes it easy for users to conduct one-tap category searches from any location on a map.

Similar to the Dashboard feature of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, the carousel features icons, called 'place widgets,' that represent categories such as hotels, movie theaters, post offices, shopping centers, parking garages, schools, bars, pharmacies, gas stations and restaurants.

iPhone users can customize their place carousel with any of the 20 or so place widgets available simply by dragging and dropping them to and from the carousel. There are also place widget icons for leading brands, such as, Walmart, Autozone, Holiday Inn and Best Western, with more promised for future releases.

Driving directions

Unlike with Google Maps for iPhone, users of the MapQuest software can plan and save maps and driving routes on their computer using MapQuest.com and then retrieve them on the iPhone by logging into their My Places account. Some users may even find this interaction essential given that MapQuest for iPhone cannot access addresses stored in an iPhone's Address Book the way Google Maps can.

Asked about a lack of Address Book address, a spokesperson for MapQuest said the company is looking into adding the capability in a future release of MapQuest 4 Mobile for iPhone.

For trips that include more than one stop, the software offers multi-point routing and draggable re-ordering capabilities. Driving directions can be seen in standard map or list view, but are also available in a third view called "Max Maneuver" that kicks in when the iPhone is held in landscape mode. Under this view, each maneuver instruction fills the entire screen and users can progresses to the next or previous maneuver simply by "swiping" the screen to the right or left.

Other features

Some other features of the MapQuest iPhone app include smooth panning maps, live traffic, free-form search, GPS to identify a user's current location, and a search history.

Users can also customize the icon that represents their location on the map, either with a stock "My Position" icon that is chosen from a list of options or by using any phone available in an iPhone's photo album.

I got the 3.0 beta firmware to work on my 2G....It has a few new features including MMS, Voice control etc

I went back to 2.2.1 because the cracked apps werent working...However I may have found out how to do it. I will try it and see
