I saw this thingy in my friends car called a capsule. they say it is to reduce fuel consumption without compromising performance or something like that.

any one know of such thing?

what exaclty is it?

what does it really do/how does it work?

where can i get it?

who installs it?

what exactly is the price range that I should cater for?

Had a thread about this bout ~2 years ago, comes in two forms, a pellet to put in the tank and an inline one for the fuel line.

Some kind of metal catalyst that increases the octane of the gas and makes it burn more cleanly and efficiently.

Forget the name, was kinda expensive. Don't know if the claims are true.

Think is that u talking bout unless is the magnet round the fuel line crap.

^^^^^ Wonder how much of the solid components end up either at the bottom of tank, inside filter, or adding to valve and injector deposits. So you did not see any gains krack korn? Remember the Tornado???

A waste of time. Tried and tested. Saw a prog on TV once about bogus claims in the US.....can't rem the name......funny enough that device was there as well.

Put a piece of iron in your stock filter box and you will get performance gains......We just need to strip away the fancy language from the marketing to see how rediculous these things are.

read my post i never used it or saw it other than in pictures.

the idea is not entirely stupid, gasolene is made using catalysts, it is concievable that a catalyst would provide some benefit by changing the chemical properties of some of the gas, but I am sure they never meet up with NP gas.

Catalysts are also poisoned by impurities eg lead, again NP has won prizes for purity. It may not last long in the present fuel envirnoment, maybe in 2020?

About the electric super charger, there is a system that dave directed me to, which actually workable from what I see, but you have to use it like Nitrous, just a burst for about 15 seconds.

How does the ECU tie in to that system, to add extra fuel?

Forcing air into the intake, MAF still metering air, no ECU mod. Like I say, it is a practical system with a high power motor (8hp) running an actual compessor, looking like haf a turbo. From an engineering standpoint it is quite practical, and it was blessed by Dave, and he doh endorse shite ting. It uses batteries in the back of the car to give you 15 seconds of bost.

Remember the name now it was FITCH Fuel Catalyst.

Look it up, seems to have good reviews.

Slacker see if this is what ur friend have and let us know if it really works.

Supposedly it returns the fuel to its 'fresh state' hot out the refinery, so I guess we might buss with that then.

I wonder if he is referring to the Ecotek CB26 device that goes on the brake booster line?

That isn't always correct. Newer cars/some ECUs, like Subaru, and some nissan....use an Open Loop/Closed Loop ECU system.

e.g. IN openloop mode, and external adjustment (such as the Elec air charger) will increase MAF readings, and the ECU will adjust in turn (like what you're proposing)

In CLOSED LOOP, the Ecu reads off the ECU maps/predesignated values ALONE. So switching on the Air charger while the ECU is in CLOSED loop....will be disastrous as the ECU tries to return the car to what it "expects" it should be seeing from the MAF sensor (based on the ECU settings), but isn't actually seeing. In closed loop, the ecu does not respond to external "inputs"...if you will. It's a recipe for "leaning out" in this case.

That's why, for example, boost controllers are a no-no for WRX's/STi's. One would think that the Ecu would simply increase fuelling and whatnot based on what the MAF and ECU are seeing once boost is increased....but not so....as the ECU runs in CL...and increasing boost leans out the engine.

Newer Nissans have gone with a similar ecu setup, as it allows for "adaptability" and "ecu learning" as we know it (allows manf'rs to use basically the same ECU for multiple markets as it can adjust to different fuel and temp conditions).

Knight1, A little correction, you have reversed the meaning of open and closed loop in a few places above. If you reverse the two, your post makes sense.

Jus to be academic:
Open loop means that sensors are ignored, and there is no feedback in the loop, gas is added to the engine based on fixed ratios by ECU. Most modern cars operate like this only at WOT, with injectors dumping fuel irrespective of sensor input as fine control at WOT is pointless anyway. Closed loop means that the air is metered and fuel to the engine is regulated based on the feedback of sensors, including O2 sensor.

In any case, I don't see the point of using the supercharger except at WOT to maximise the boost for that short burst of power. If you can instal dry shot of nitrous on a stock car, I dont see why you can't run to lean for a few seconds. Remember, this is a short burst of metered compressed air into the manifold for a few seconds, not a continuous thing to mash up the engine with a constant boost to make you run lean and burn up your engine.
