Orion HCCA 12.2

Postby djlegac » July 11th, 2009, 9:22 pm

hey whats up guys? new to the forum, i was introduced to this forum from Rovin, currently building my first system.

Right now as we speak i have
1 2000 bmw 528i
2 Orion HCCA 12.2 for bass
2-AP-3001D 3000W class D 1 chanel (3000 watts rms)
3 audio pipe 1500 2 channels for mids and highs
2 x Celestion TF0510 - 5" Bass/Midbass Woofer (CLSTN-TF0510) for surround in the doors with tweeters
2 x RCF L10/750YK 10" Mid-Bass Speaker (RCFL10/750YK)for voice
2 x B&C 8PE21 - 8" Woofer (BC8PE21)for voice
3 optimas d35 batteries
2 10 farad SPL caps
epic center meter, not sure the model number
clarion crossover and equalizer, not sure the model number.
Pioneer avhp4100dvd player
and thats it for right now.

learned alot from just reading in this forum, but was interested in knowing how to do my box for these, i know they have to be vented. but my trunk is completly sealed, and only have a ski pass. there will be alot of rattling and also sound will not be great, i want low bass out of these subs. dont really want to do a wall on the backseats. so the guy is coming to build the custom box next week, and i got to tel him what i want. this is strictly for low bass, and daily. i want it to shake also lol. rovin has been trying to help me, i see you guys know more about hcca's then other forums so thanks for any inside!

i like when i hear some1 boasting big equipment and saying its strictly for lows.
You need to get rid or customise the back seat so that that energy can come out the vehicle, u need to or you're wasting time.

ok so rovin we just took the measurements just now, if i do a wall, i got 36 inches across and the hcca's are about 16 inches wide each, leaving about 4 inches left to play, is that enough room to fit them? and port them above the speaker facing parallel? i hate bmw's now lol, by the way, the metal piece that seals the trunk, is off, so the trunk is not sealed anymore, just took it off

djlegac, I didn't see a High Output alternator in your list. The BMW alternator is high rated I'm sure but not for this kinda equipment you have. Also you gonna have to do some custom work for your mids... possibly fiberglass. The mids you have chosen are highly directional and the loudest and best sound is achieved by being in front of the driver.

I have a 12.2 as well and I don't think its 16" wide. In 36" you can fit 2 side by side and still have a decent size port (depending on how tall the port is).

Another thing I'm seeing is that you plan on using an epicenter.... IMO with 2 HCCA tuned low you won't need an epicenter... especially if you listen to song with a lot of low bass content.

Mine is tuned at 33Hz but I not sure if you wanna go below that in your system. Listen to the bass from a couple friends cars who actually know the tuning of their enclosures to help settle you mind. When you say the guy is coming to build the boxes do you mean he is coming to build it alone or design it and build (wrt tuning)?

well i searched and searched for this alternator, and nothing, best bet is do the "big 3" and then use my extra batteries.
for my mids, my installer is fiberglasing the back dash. i do need tweeters though, any recommendations?
for my box, im not to sure what my installer is designing for this box, because im still deciding if i want to loose my backseat. but it looks as though i might have too. not too sure about tuned box or anything like that, when you say tuned box what does that mean? with an equalizer or something?
And thanks for the advice on the epicenter, at least now i can just buy the audio control eqs or eqx, still deciding any advice? my installer said the 7 band clarion will do fine. but i personally prefer audio control's trunk mount.
