So did many others. But apparently most are saying it's very responsive-comparable to the iPhone...I have my doubts. |

not bashing nokia, they make good phones. not the best anymore but still good.

Hence Nokia must put emphasis on their Camera and GPS to sell phones
Other than that, the phone is basic |

If you know how retarded you two sounding right now.
Nokia the COMPANY...has many different brands of phone and more than one OS. So please identify what exactly you are talking about...because WE (all those who actually know about phones etc) are getting confused as to which line/phone/OS you're actually talking about.
Thank you. |

Read the following article and you might understand everything
http://blogs.computerworld.com/nokia_n97_fails_as_an_iphone_competitor
Why the N97 fails as an Iphone Competitor
Another iPhone killer has emerged....
This one from Nokia, the world's largest cell phone manufacturer. How can I be so certain that it will fail?
1. The product name is lacking. You can't fall in love with a "N97" or a "N810" unless your name is C3PO or R2D2. Nokia has gotten away with not differentiating their product names for so long because they've had great specs, an adequate user experience and some good marketing. In this new competitive smartphone field, you need to be able to form a connection with your device. Nokia isn't creating that. For techies this doesn't matter (I had a Nokia N95 and used to know their whole product line) but for the other 90% of the population, this is a big differentiator. Something like "iPhone" or "Chocolate" or "RAZR" will always beat a set of numbers and letters.
2. Nokia's specs are great but are also not absurdly better than iPhone. Nothing below will be a game changer for most consumers, especially when not integrated as well as they are on the iPhone. There is no killer app feature.
5 megapixel camera with flash
3.5", 640x360 resistive touch screen (not glass)
QWERTY slide out keyboard
3G, WiFi, GPS
32GB on board expandable to 48Gb
3. Apps Store. While there are good apps available for the Symbian platform, developers are forced to, yet again, retool their apps for this phone, its screen size and its processor. Not nearly as many will as are putting out great Apple Apps Store content (10,000 apps and counting - about 1/10th are good). The Apps Store is a hit with everyone involved including webmasters who advertise apps on their sites and get commissions. You can't create a whole ecosystem like this overnight.
4. Nokia is no longer the de facto Smartphone. In fact, its numbers are dropping dramatically, while Apple's are skyrocketing. Google's Android platform is also capturing imagination while Blackberry is coming out with some (relatively) exciting models.
5. Symbian is no longer the hot platform. Apple is obviously hot, but the new kid on the block in the open source space is Google with its Android platform. Mindshare is waning for Symbian.
6. The user interface is clunky. Just watch the video below. It seems way more complex than necessary, and slow.
7. It is a third thicker than the iPhone. Probably due to the QWERTY keyboard, this won't feel nearly as good in a tight pocket or even on the ear for a long call. Also the iPhone is one piece of hard material while the N97 is the flip variety. While these aesthetic issues may seem minor, the difference in feel will be significant. (Thanks commenter)
Dimensions:
Phone 115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3mm
N97 117.2 x 55.3 x 15.9mm
8. There are websites devoted to the iPhone interface. The N97 is just another face in the crowd mobile platform that won't get specialized webpages developed like the iPhone.
9. It will be available during the middle of next year. By then the next iPhone will be right around the corner - likely with a lot of the N97's differentiating functions and more.
10. All of the other iPhone and iPod killers before the N97 have failed. This isn't much different. Look at the Toshiba G900 released last year. Better specs all around, but barely noticable. I don't want to be a Ballmer here: "No chance!" but I really can't see where this Nokia phone hopes to differentiate itself. I am sure you Nokia fans can help me in the comments |

pretty good article except that it was written on December 3, 2008... around the same time nokia even announced the N97..
How can you write an article bashing a phone that was not even made yet? the guy didnt even know what it looked like so he started to bash the name....hahaha what a moron...
IMO the iphone cant compare to the N97.....
i mean come on ...the huge upgrade to the iphone is that they put a gold band on it and gave it the ability to record video......you call that an attempt at a comeback?
only a fool would take that bait.....
all the other points in my other post is still valid.....
even the much older nokia N series phones n70 etc all had a flash player and could multitask...the iphone cant. |

I see 2 videos in the article with the N97 in use...Are you saying this was placed after the article was published?

since when the n97 is an iphone killer.. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
nokia just wanted to create a new flagship device which incorporated all the basic uses of the modern day phone.
Blackberry also has some great features of its own. Also, of course the iPhone cant be left out in the apps division. When will the iphone have mms? or have full support in trinidad even? do i have to mod it to unlock it (which voids its warranty) to use it in trinidad or other parts? why do i have to.. why didnt have it like the rest of phone companies? monopoly?
To each his own. Companies make phones designed to specify users and what people want. Certain people might find a Blackberry more useful and others a nokia or a sony ericsson.
We can go on all day, who phone badda bullcrap but when you realize, its all up to the end user and what they want.
I am not bashing anyone eh... |

The Camera is far better than what is in the iPhone, it has expandable memory, it has a QWERTY Keyboard which for me is a huge plus.
Saying that another product has better features, but that they don't matter is just ridiculous.

|
Apple's applications are region locked, Apple's store is region locked. Nokia Store is available worldwide, and there are several applications for it right now. You can be in Trinidad and purchase every app that's on the store, you cannot do that with iPhone. In fact, if you are in Trinidad you aren't even supposed to have one. If you do, and it isn't on an AT&T roaming plan you are breaking the law.
Nokia have plenty of time to create their app 'eco system', and their ecosystem will be global.

What does that have to do with the product?

Again, what does that have to do with the product? The Symbian OS is still great, it can run multiple applications at the same time (something that the iPhone cannot do) and is generally considered to be a mature and stable OS.

6. The user interface is clunky. Just watch the video below. It seems way more complex than necessary, and slow.

That I don't know about. Some people prefer the Apple OS, and I don't think it can be argued that Apple did a fantastic job with it.

|
It isn't thicker than other QWERTY style phones. They travel well and the size really isn't an issue, any more than it is with the dozens of other qwerty phones or sliders on the market today.

8. There are websites devoted to the iPhone interface. The N97 is just another face in the crowd mobile platform that won't get specialized webpages developed like the iPhone. |
Ignorant. This phone will have supporting sites just as all the other popular phones out there. The P990 and P910 still have sites devoted to them today. |
