Ok guys...WTK
Well its like this...
Wonderful morning in Trinidad and lovely weather for cricket and a siht load of problems one after the next.
Firstly let me say this...the car was blessed by a pundit already...
1. Busted RF shock...Massey $1964
2. Steering rack pinion seal...kit at Massey $1800
3. Misc front rubber +/- $700
etc etc ...
Question:
1. Any body beside massey?
2. The power steering pump makin real noise when ah now start and screaming back at me when I turn the steering...the mechanic said its air that has to bleed out...?
Oh and it burning oil now...I think the turbo Fcuked it singing a song of sixpence? Like better than trinidad police car sirens...
Talk bout redefining the lemon...u'd swear I was a 'Gitaway driver' with all this destruction |

Answer to #2 is to change out pwr. steering fluid and use some Amsoil synthetic dexron 3 pwr. steering fluid....red in clr.
As for the squealing pump it's normal on cold startup......the owners manual says so.... |

Sorry to hear about all these problems Redeyeblueeye.
Strange that you're having all this with your car
Anyways, Polydor is spot on with the Pwr Steering fluid change.
How do you know your rack and pinion seal is busted anyways?
I think you need to change ur mech....maybe he cast some bad "juju" on ur car |

I changed mechanic....lol this is the new one.
Anyway on with the saga...
Dextron 3 (Castrol AT Tranny fluid) ain't wukkin to solve noise
Rack and pinion seal checked by mechanic...and fixed no more leaks now but jus noise...
Well to be honest at first I thought it normal to be havin all these problems u know the old adage...car is maintenance etc...but I think its ridiculous now.
But Thanks for all the support guys |

It is ridiculous. In the two years I've owned my car, I've never had any of these problems.
The only thing that was "busted" was the outer boot rubber seal...and that was easy to procure. Sounds like your car went thru a war........

You put tranny fluid in your power steering!!! |

Knight1 ... forgive me,
This Tranny fluid I put was NP AT transmission fluid I put under the recommendation of a performance mechanic in south down by me, and to be honest I thought it was the same...I even check a marine store I saw was selling Tranny fluid and asked the guy about and he too told me the all these product contain dextron 3 so it should be good.
but.... um... er...So this can't work ...can it?
and you saying that its screwing up my Pwr steering and causing the noise?
if so I thinking ....this good be causing damage to meh pump and everything...CRAP!
So I how I can drain it and put Amsoil synthetic dextron 3 pwr steering fluid? |

A33_VQ35, I see you missed the sarcasm of my post. No worries though, I'll remember next time to do spell it out for folks who can't grasp that concept (such as yourself).
Redeyeblueeye, I can't imagine there being any difference in running the Amsoil and what you have in your car now, or tranny fluid vs. what is sold as pwr steering fluid. It's the same spec (Dexron 3).....here's an excerpt from the service manual for the Impreza:
So.....let your mechanic advise you accordingly |

Knight1 ... I looking at the excerpt here and it clearly says ..."do not mix different types of fluids"
I'm thinking that there in lies the problems ... maybe ...Cos he didn't drain existing fluid b4 toppin up to my knowledge...
Slight discrepancies or variations in properties or densities of fluid (affected by temperature as on start up per say) may be affecting the pump and causing the whinning noise.
What say you ? |
