Anybody knows the recommended mileage to change the timing chain in an sr20ve? The car is a 2000 P11 Primera.
Also is there anything that needs to be changed whilst changing the chain?
I'm hearing a sort of rattle when the car starts in the morning and when i accelerate. Rattling stops if the car is just idling.

If anyone can recommend a good sr mechanic in south it will be much appreciated too.

the chain as was said is very durable and the guides is what wear first
they may be the culprit of the noise but more so may be the tensioner
the tenionser works with oil pressure and is usually worsen with highly dense filters like frams
if the rattle doesn't go after a few seconds at start up then u may have some more issues

I use the original nissan oil filters along with mobil 1, 10w30. I make sure and change oil at the recommended times.
I'm relieved to hear dat the chain is durable. dat's a weight off my mind. I tink ultimately i will need to get someone who knows wat they're doing to open it up and inspect the guides and tensioner.

The rattle does stop a few seconds after start up but i hear it when accelerating slowly; especially if its an enclosed area like garage etc.
I checked all the exhaust rubbers but they were intact. was hoping dat was the cause Sad

Thanks for the advice.

i suggest u check your timing
if rattling happens when driving, guides or tensioner would need to be replaced/serviced/removed, well not the tensioner but the top guide if its worn
