|
My friend went to check out a Honda Civic EXi (recently (2008) converted to manual).
He says though that if you rev the engine & then stop the RPM goes to about 300 & sounds like it will stall & then catches itself. While trying to balance the clutch it stalls.
One of my friends thinks that its 3" exhaust system may be a cause, where some think the idle may be set up wrong or if the idle air control valve maybe dirty & if thats the case how much will it cost to clean or replace it.
What do you guys think?
Thanks |

sounds like the idle air control valve needs cleaning, which is a DIY job once you have basic mechanic skills.. simply take off the throttle body (careful not to damage the gasket), take off and unplug the MAP sensor and clean everything out with some gum solve or similar throttle body cleaner..
i believe there are coolant lines running to the TB as well, so you will need to disconnect those if you don't want to clean it on the car.. |

Yep - great advice from 3stage
to the OP:
a dirty or sticking throttle plate can also cause idle issues.
the car probably needs a general tune up as well - costs est 500-800 by your friendly neighborhood mechanic! |

the idle air control valve can be removed as well. Its held at the back of the intake manifold by two ten nuts. Take them off, disconnect the water hoses and electriccs and spray with some throttle body cleaner. Most likely you will see gunk on the little strainer when you take it off.
Also, make sure your TPS is in order, this will also cause the idle issue. make sure all plugs jacked in good and contacts clean. |
