any problems associated or arising from the removal of the catalytic converter from the 1.8 gdi 4g93 2000 vrg galant?

askin for my gf, cuz she gone by a muffler place to weld on a tip an de man tell she dat she shud do the decat operation

i understand that a warning light on the dash may come on...but is there any real adverse effects apart from that?

Yeah you can take it out put you will have to live with the issues

GDI ECU needs cat to do proper burn of fuel in econ mode an taking it of will cause engine problems in the long run.

Plus GDI CAT is manufactured to filter the exaust which suffers the after effects of GDI combustion it emmits a super fine cloud of carbon particles which can affect lungs.

These particles can find way into cabin. Rolling Eyes

u would need to space out the secondary o2 sensor inorder not to throw a CEL

i took out mine a while back, i regret doing it though, the exhaust fumes smell like poison Confused which may point toward what xtech was saying, the car now burns more gas than usual. it only had one O2 sensor though

honestly i wouldn't bother trying anything with these cars other than basic maintenance, if its just the tip she changed she should be good if its the whole muffler she may run in to some issues, there is some kind of flapper thing on the side of the muffler with something similar to accelerator cable on it that goes back inside the car somewhere. the muffler guy chopped out mine before i saw it an the car picked up a funny idle since then
