For "crowd pleaser" ???

The 880PRS and the Alpine 9887 are more along the lines of SQ. You will still achieve a nice clean signal with either one of those though but you wont be using too much of the DSP processing hence under utilising a very good HU.

yes. Even use google:

http://community.crutchfield.com/forums/thread/54157.aspx

http://www.realmofexcursion.com/forum/showthread.php?p=451602

http://www.diymobileaudio.c...887-vs-880-vs-7100-a.html

etc.

There was one comparison where a guy had a 880 and upgraded to the 9887 the day it came out but I can't seem to find it now- he did an indepth review of both (not locally)

thanks guys, but if i use d 9887 do i hav to get the Imprint software to get the maximum output or is the imprint for SQ purposes. Some of d reviews said 880 and some went with the 9887, so i guess either way i go i should be safe right.

You definitely don't need the imprint kit for your application. These 2 units are very good no matter what the application! You just need 2 know how to fully utilise all the functions 2 get the most from it(eg. x-overs and eq's). With any of these 2 units u really don't need any other processing other than an external passive x-over to complete a 4-way.

bess choice, however, alpine recommends all vehicle harness be 10cm from the head unit eh. so know where u placing it, and you have to aim the remote straight at the face, and you have to push the buttons hard yep, sometimes i wanna low down the vol and i does hadda be fighting up with the direction of the remote.

I've got a question about the 800PRS and the Alpine 9887...

does either of them come with USB built in (ie without the need to purchase an additional module) ???

you hit it right on the spot, and that is why i am now using a 9833 in my car and it sounds great. But after the years go by it does get a little resistant to reading scratched CDs but thats nothing some tender loving car to your CDs can't fix.

IMO the newer alpines are meant for flexibilty and quantity over quality. iPod integration, MP3 capability, integration with other devices - bluetooth etc. If you need that flexibility then go with a new Alpine (especially for iPod control). These days the USDM market is not about Sound Quality, you should think about Japan and the far east for that (Thailand, Malaysia)!

I have a 9887 Embarassed but I do not have any regrets buying it because of the other functionality it provides. i.e. I don't use CDs in the car anymore for daily, only apple lossless and an iPod, and all in one xover and EQ. For a daily head unit, it suits its purpose fine. Its not the best sounding unit I've heard (that title belongs to an old school alpine combo)

For pure sound quality without all those bells and whistles, there are a lot of other options.
