very good car. Suspension and platform is shared with the Volvo S40 and Mazda 3. USDM version uses Mazda engine and transmission. They are excellent handling vehicles and well rated in North America and Europe. Locally, they not so hot thats why they not all that popular but its a best kept secret since Mazda 3's all over the place like any other compact. The Focus is rare and you get relative exclusivity as a result. The Skoda Octavia is another worthy choice besides the Ford. Resale value not all that though on both.

Nicely engineered car. I especially like the the driver information display like BMW.

The 1.6L DOHC ZETEC Engine sucks though. Now if it had the 2.3L Duratec 16V Engine like the Mondeo................

you mean the re-badged Mazda MZR 2.3 DOHC SV-T engine? Laughing but I think the new Mondeo has the new MZR 2.5 DOHC 16V SV-T engine with DISI just like the just launched 2nd gen Mazda 6.....they already share same platform and suspension so I guess they threw in the new 2.5 4-cyl as well.

I guess so, the Focus too slow, so it needs a bigger engine with more horses.

Thats what you get in Trinidad... Perhaps.
You have the Petrol "C307" Focus in 1.4 andf 1.6 fixed cam and 1.6 Ti-VCT Sigma engines. Then you have I4 1.8 amd 2.0 engines. This is topped off by the 2.5 I5 engine in the ST and soon the reworked 2.5 I5 with 300ps in the RS. Diesels you have 1.6, 2.0 PSA TDCi engines.
The spec to go for is the "Titanimun". This car has also gone thorugh a facelift to bring inline with the rest of products such as the Mondeo, C -Max, New Fiesta and Kuga.

The I4 PFI engines (Duratec) are Mazda derived units but calibrated by Ford to match the brand DNA.
CD345 Mondeos and S80 Volvos have a 165ps 2.3 option. There are no DISI turbos in Ford products on sale yet. Top of the range is the 2.5 I5 Volvo derived unit. The Mazda 6 platform/suspension has few silimarites with the chasiss found on the Mondeo, SMAX/Galaxy or S80.
2.5 I4 is found exclusivley in the Ranger and Transit.

ST

Yeah yuh right ST, but I was refering to the 1.6L Ghia sedan. A 2.0L or better would complete the car IMHO. Put the ST engine in the Ghia. Very Happy

thegtiman.....good clarification there dude, u working in ford or what?

The Ford Focus ST is a wicked car but despite having 5 pots and a turbo it is not overall superior than: Mazda 3 MPS, Volkswagen GTI, Volkswagen R32, Volvo C30 T5, Dodge Caliber SRT4, Chevrolet Cobalt SS, Mini Cooper S, Honda Civic Mugen Si, Nissan Sentra SER Spec V, Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart and Subaru Impreza WRX. heck even a Scion tC with the TRD Supercharger kit offers a rewarding experience. Ford needs to drop a cylinder, take the Mazda 2.3 SVT DISI Turbo engine and up the boost and ofcourse have those rear wheels spinning as well to help in torque steer reduction.

It really depends on the market and genre and the Focus is the benchmark for handling.
A Focus ST competes against the Golf GTi, Mini Cooper S, Peugot 208 GTi, Vauxhall Astra VXR and Civic type R to name a few small hot hatches. I am not aware that the ST goes to NA . The C30 is a also a Ford product but by VCC and is not as popular as the Focus. Lancer and Subaru, MK5 Golf R32 and 135i are the benchmarks for the Foucs RS not ST. The Mazda engine turned out to be rubbish and is not used in Ford products. Ford has its own engines and technology that are being implemented. In Europe the Mazda 3 MPS is NOT popular despite it having vaguely similar Focus underpinnings.
I am actually a VW enthusiast. But Ford has come a long way in the products they produce and the Focus ST in one such example.
