ive had two rover 200's (a a 200 SLI and a 200VI) and i just bought another VI....tuning them? if its a VI, yout best bet is to get a KnN Panel filter (not the cone...that pulls hot air).
Also, if your car is doing past 50K look to change your timing belt ASAP. The VI's are really lovely enignes and once you do the Head gasket swap, you can begin to fetter with the ECU and get more power out of it....oddly enough, most hardcore Rover tuners get rid of the VVC system and run cams with stand alone management...but in such a case you looking at spending close to 25K to get that done...its an expensive tune, but the resultas impressive...some tuners have been known to get 250BHP out of their VI lumps...
In terms of who tunes them locally? its a DIY situation...check out sites like www.mg-rover.org and read up.
What i did with my VI was to make the car breathe easier...so i changed out the exhaust and ran a 2.75 exhaust system (the VI's come with a 2.25 stock system) and ran a CAI. I built a cold air box and relocated the battery to the trunk area.
Another option is to get the 1.8T from the Rover 220. its an earlier model. but its a robust engine that can produce up to 300hp once done right. Your Achilles heel there is the Manual Transmission. It cant take alot of roughing up.
Nick Jr and MG Man cud add to this.... |

If it's just normal service any competent mechanic can do that for u... Eddy has all the service parts u need. oil filter, air filter, A/C air filter, spark plugs (pre gapped- Champion). The oil will be your choice which u can get everywhere.... currently I am using Castrol Syntec Blend (20W-50) It takes real licks... so for now that's what I'm running.
From what you're saying u have a 200 like mine, just with the leather option. You are manual or CVT? |
