I find that my music gets kinda piercing in the upper region at louder listening volume. when the glass is down it evens out the compressed sound and the imaging returns. my system is set for sq only and the system comprises of dls, jl and pioneer.

try placing a piece of cloth or acoustic foam on the glass to confirm if its reflections from the glass or change of the vehicles acoustics due to the windows being down

if you experience this effect only at a louder volume then it is possible that reflections may not be your issue otherwise why not have this effect at a normal level with your windows up?

tuning and or maybe power compression or distortion can also cause this effect.

how much power you have on your tweets and what are they crossed at

tweets x at 5000 and 12 db, I played some music with the cloth clipped on the glass and it reduces the piercing heights somewhat. I think I might have to redo the pods. Trying to figureout how to make aimable pods that not big

How about a foam diffraction ring around the tweeter? That should reduce some of the indirect output a bit, unless the tweeter is facing the glass, of course.

this May be what is causing it here and not the tweeter

freqs between 3k and 5k are very sensitive to the ears and are responsible for "ear fatigue" and music harshness

i dont believe you are using the passive with that set and if i can recall those mids may not be able to play that high thus cone break up in that region may be adding to this.

^^keep the install as is and wire it with the passives.

listen for differences Arrow
If that's not ur ambient tweeter up top, then u should try to keep it closer to the woofer Cool

what he could even try is to leave it as it is and keep it active but use a steeper slope on the mid low pass to prevent the break up or phase shift

if this is the same install as a while back then issue should not lie in the equip nor the install

i agree with jeff

the tweets crossed at 5k and up as well as the mids at 5 k and up??

the mids may be the culprit at high volume

suggest running an rta on it at different volume levels to see if there is anything changing as you raise the volume

well played with the fronts again, i think the main culprit is the tweeter angle. i feel at low volume there is not much reflection, at mid to hi I can turn off the right tweeter and would be a a sort of mono "in front your face". when I hold up a towel near the driver's glass, the sound moves to the left. this was done without the the mids playing.

i thought we were talking about harshness in the high freq region rather than imaging?

I gather from what I'm reading you're running active.

What processing are you using?

Also which component set we're talking about?

I see two persons talking about human sensitivity at 3-5k , i echo their thoughts which could be your problem
