^^^ isn't there a thread here on improving octane with home-made mixtures of toluene, methanol and whatnot? methinx it had recommended mixing ratios as well

either way, to some extent using nigher octane fuel MAY help fuel economy, but that depends heavily on the engine and tuning

let's say u have a high compression pocket-rocket and your timing is all advanced and whatnot...on pump gas it's likely to ping...so the knock sensor picks up the pinging and the ecu backs off the timing and richens the mixture to save your powerplant from pre-detonation
in a case like this, using a higher octane mix means your anti-knock circuitry doesn't come into play so u actually feel an increase in power (cuz ECU isn't pulling timing) and you get slightly better economy (cuz ECU isn't dumping fuel)

other than that, it doesn't help in a stock econo-box engine...just keep it well-tuned, properly maintaned and drive economically
Idea

that extremely hard to do when yuh driving a 1.3 almera, and yuh hadda be at full throttle to reach cruising speed Confused

the 12a probably only had 2 injectors to start with by cutting off the next two he is running on the normal mix.
there are a lot of factors before you just cut out 2 injectors remember fuel is used for cooling in the cylinders also you would also need the spark to stop on those two cylinders because you will melt the piston and damage the valves without fuel cooling the system.
the cars with cylinder deactivation have a complex system which cuts the spark and fuel some of them also have a "floating" cam which does not even open the valves fully when the cylinder is deactivated.
