the normal evo 7 ecu has 4 connectors with 2 rows of wires in each connector the GTA has the same 4 connectors but 3 rows of wires going into it...my guess is maybe they incorparated the tranny ecu and engine ecu into one unit i not 100% sure on that so if anyone knows different let me know plz |

mitsu4life, yes the transmission and engine is on the same ecu , what is the problem with the vehicle ?

| i want a ecu pinout for it to install a speed limit defender i cant find the speed sensor wire, i found a wire but when i hooked up the SLD the speedo stopped working so i'm guessing that the speedo gets its signal from the ecu (which was the wire i cut) so i dont think that it was the correct speed signal wire |

mitsu4life, I dont know about your vehicle but on the gdi its the white with blue colour wire .
on some vehicles with ABS, the speed signal is taken from the ABS module ,not the transmission.

mitsu4life, I am seeing the evo 8 with the speed signal as black with yellow wire , that ecu also have 3 rows of wire.

speed sensor wire at pin 80 that is the:
2nd plug from left (28 pin)
middle row (or second row from top)
3rd pin from left.
its best to get the ecu flashed to remove speed limit FYI |

cj, i checked the evo8 pinout before it has three rows of wires but only 3 plugs
Krack korn, i think thats the wire i cut, its black and yellow
thats the wire your talking about i used this but when the hks sld was wired in the speedo doesnt function, now i'm wondering if the hks is working or not, i also read last night that the are 2 hks sld's a type 1 and a type 2.
the type 1 is for manual and the type 2 is for automatic vehicles can someone confirm this? if thats the case well i guess we hadda get a type 2 hks sld
i was reading one RMutt's posts and i dont the GDI ecu's can be flashed |

yes that is the correctomundo wire.
If u had a scope or a meter that measures frequency it would be nice to diagnose here.
lets start from scratch. what colour wires u have on the SLD?
mine is red , black, white, yellow and blue.
red and black is power + and - respectively, so verify the unit is getting power with a DVM.
yellow goes towards the ECU (speed out) on the wire u have cut
white goes towards the loom (speed in) again on the cut wire
I don't know what blue does.
Lastly are the switches set up correctly?
Since the tranny and the engine are using the same ecu, they should see the same signal, no need for a SLD type II in this case I think (but not sure). |

i hooked it up exactly like that but the speedo stops working, the blue wire is for an alternate method of wiring where the speedo gets its signal from the ecu the blue wire would feed a speed signal to the speedo so that when it goes past 180km the speedo will continue rising but the hks is really 'clamping' the voltage making the ecu see the coresponding voltage for 180km, other wise the speedo would stay at 180km even though you doin 200+km lol
i think i may need to use that method described above or the switches arent setup right how are yours setup?
i think your right about the SLD type II part this fustrating jed
i prefer the older model wiring i took out the speedcut from my friends vr-4 an no problems...well except that he needs bigger brakes |

the signal to the ecu from the speed sensor is frequency, it pulses so many times per revoloution of the wheels (2 or 4). At 180km/h when the speed signal is increasing the output to the ecu is kept constant at something just less than the frequency for 180km/h, the ecu thinks u are less than 180 but your speed keeps increasing.
different brand cars have different pulses per revolution
Mine is nissan, u need to set up the switches for mistu. May be same but I beleive its different. Mine was already set up when I bought it second hand, I don't have the instructions to set up the switches.
Three possibilities I see
1. unit not powered
2. Unit damaged internally
3. Switches incorrect.
My thinking here is that maybe another pin on the ECU outputs to the speedo, the fact that the speedo is not working tells me that the ecu itself is not geting the right signal in.
Alternately if the SLD is damaged or switches incorrect it might degrade the signal to the speedometer if the signal is split off the same wire.
How does the car drive? normally or does it feel sluggish?, if the ecu doesn't see the speed signal u might get a lowered rev limit as well, a sort of safe mode. So a simple mash out will tell u. A scope or frequency reading DVM would be better though. |

hmmm well the unit power & ground was taped of from an SAFC that was previously installed, i will double check for proper connection.
this was purchased 2nd hand also it supposedly came out from EVO VII (manual)
i cant even find a manual for it online to see if the switches are setup correctly
the car drives fine, the speedo just doesnt move, i guess i'll try two things either fiddling with switch setup or put it in another vehicle an see if works there to eliminate the possibility that the unit is damaged
i know one thing for thats the coorect wire to use because in my manual for the apexi RSM that the wire they tap for speed signal or intercept for speed cut removal |

mitsu4life, if you cut that speed wire from the ECU and leave it open and your spedo stop working , then that is not the wire your looking for .
It is posible there is a speed IN signal that goes to the ECU, that is what you are looking for .
if you have a scope you can lift the car all wheels off the ground switch ignition on and have some one turn the wheels , and scope for pulse .

i get what your saying, but i'm thinking this an i could be wrong here, i think that is the speed signal wire i'm looking for, the ecu see's a speed signal/frequency from that wire then outputs a signal to speedo via some other wire. So when i cut the wire the ecu isnt getting any speed signal coming into it an hence has no signal (or a value for 0km) to send to the speedo
by the way i found a setup manual for the SLD with all the switch positions for all vehicles , the switch was setup on the SLD was way off, i will try it out a lil later an we'll see what goes on |

mitsu4life, if you think that wire the pin 80 black with yellow is the IN speed signal , then you can confirm this with a scan tool , look in live data for speed signal.
if you see the speed signal on scan tool that is not the wire .

Wait nah I now watching your diagram good is the wrong damn wire u cut
Is the 2nd plug not the 3rd plug!! Read my first post.
The same plug that have the karman (that is the evo air flow type)
the wire right below rpm on your diagram
what diagram is that u working with? I looking at the airtrek turbo '02+
send that setup for the SLD switches my way, I looking for that long time. |
