Question for the cars execs.
Would it be possible to have the timing system up for the BYCC in the 13th?
The last one was a great learning experience for me as a novice but I honestly couldn't tell if what I was trying to implement from the classroom session was having an effect on the actual lap times.
Would be nice to know if our times actually improving during the course of the day as a result of the different lines/techniques being used. |

i hope noone gets pissed off for this one...........
but isn't it to the drivers advantage to get a time after each run?
the last bycc was disappointing to me, as i coulodnt tell who was doing the course faster between myself, reyos, and rudy.
also as highlighted above, if im improving or getting worse.
why encourage drivers to run their car, when they can't get a result? |

Same sentiment, I did not feel challenged. |

the only problem with running the timing system for the bycc is there are a maximum number of runs that the system will allow I believe it is 6, so we will have to delete previous runs for each competitor which would be tedious.
At the bycc we also find a lot of new drivers or otherwise drivers wanting to try all sorts of stuff. In the past we have been a little worried about the sensors getting damaged by one of these drivers. Also it will slow down the event as you will now have to go through waiting for the information to be entered in the system.
I understand the need for the times but if we going to do all that we might as well make it a competition event. how bout a head to head instead? |

Salty, unless you are more or less evenly matched with driving skills first and car second, I personally do not like heda to heads, they are not a measured performance.
I understand your concerns about the timing system though.
Can't that 6 time thing be adjusted though?
There are some real computer nerds in dex cough *bill* cough cough, who might be able to help.
As far as damage, I guess careful monitoring will have to be instituted.
Suggestion!
At the last BYCC, I had a padner sit in the car and time me with his stopwatch. Not the best, but it did help with a few things. It was his first time at solodex and his comment was as follows:
That run feel slow boy...wait, but that was the fastest time so far! |

Was actually considering the stopwatch idea but asked the question because the timing system would be more accurate.
saltydog, Is there any way to possibly use 2 laptops with the timing system?
One to record the times and one just to display?
Or even to export the timing logs into a spreadsheet and display the times on another laptop.
After the first stage of 6 runs for each competitor have a small break transfer the times then clear them and start again. The drivers could then check the times on the display machine without interrupting the recording on the main one.
It may cause a little slowdown during the day but I think the drivers would rather sacrifice a couple extra runs if they are able to improve on the overall times.
Again these are just suggestions as I don't know the limitations of the software. |

saltydog,
i understand d frustrations, but what workarounds could we come up with?
at the end of a run, i want to know if my previous time was slower, and at the end of the day,how big a difference if any, between the various competitors.
the timing system records a time, without even a competition number. once the beam is broken.
a simple excel file "turn on autosave feature", with drivers names and recording only their best time. if the next run is faster, it is changed. if it was slower, no change.
yes it requires the timing system hardware being setup, and i understand the risk there, (could possibly set them wider apart, than the cones in the finish area, to let that act as a funnel). |

well maybe we could record without competitor number but there will be the possiblility of a mistake being made. Also who is running the timing system? Most weekends now I am busy, I try real hard to make a dex event happen. If you are willing to work the system then maybe it could happen. Right now no one else seems willing to learn to use it.
I taught my 10year old son to use it so i could teach anyone hear that is willing |

A white board or clipboard should work here....i volunteer to record the times, i just need two other people to help on a rotation so i can also do some runs.
We should really make every effort to have timing for a BYCC.....no other way to know if you're improving. |

great news volenteers! if we have help it could happen. It is possible that I may not be there so we would have to meet before the event. Which is only a few weeks away. I suggest we meet the tuesday before to organise? all in favour say I.
I looking at the software settings and I think we can add more runs, but for the people who want 20 like reyos.......
The white board is a nice idea but again someone not getting to drive. I will do my very best to come to the event but I not sure yet.
Anyone want to have a try at a course? |

my suggestion is rerun the one from dex 4. (yeah i real like that course, it meets my needs.) ppl already familiar with it. minor change to the finish though (was a lil too close to pit). and myself and others can attempt to systematically improve in certain areas of it. |
