TTRC’s Race the Zig Zag Challenge !!
Written by Jacqueline Alexis, PRO of TTRC
After a 2-month break since April 20th when <Preysal Bites Again>, the stages drivers of the Trinidad & Tobago Rally Club are eagerly looking forward to the 4th Championship event of the year.
This will occur on Sunday 20th July at the reformed <New Zig Zag> stage in Preysal. This venue is well loved by both the driver teams and spectators alike. Some parts of the stage are now nicely gravelled while rain has continued to make slush of other areas. There are the inevitable few water splashes, ‘One Oot’s’ favourites, that pop up intermittently along the course.
The rally will become even more challenging if the weather man announces rain, as is expected at this time of year …. the course will get very slippery with the zapatay mud and competitors will have their hands full, trying to control their rally machines. They will be extra careful nonetheless despite the elation and exhilaration of returning to their favourite sport after two months. Teams suit up for the occasion and the TTRC camp is already abuzz with excitement as it is rumoured that there may be new drivers …
The line up includes some of the top drivers in the country AND SURPRISE! SURPRISE! …3 teams from our Caribbean neighbours of St Vincent – Steve and Dominic Ollivierre - and Barbados – James Betts and Dean Serrao driving ex-Harold Morley-ex-John Powell’s Suburu.. these three enthusiasts have been a constant presence on our local stages recently apart from Rally Trinidad and once again, WELCOME to our Trini gravel stages… we are very pleased to have you with us.
To date, the local contingent is represented by Rezan <Consistent> Mohammed/Arshad Mondro, Darrel <Dark Horse> Ramesar/Mikhail Ramadhar, Roger Mckenzie/Max Jallai, Shelford Robinson/Rajesh Ganar, Jerome Lum Hung/Kevin Mohammed, Robert Cadiz/Randy Lee Young, Ansel Ali/Roger Smith, James Harris/Steve Tarouba, Scott Sheppard, Ainsley Lochan/Robert Dumas, Barry Mckenzie/Barry Samaroo, Vishal Dhanraj/Richard Ramsingh with Ryan Peyrau driving a Suzuki Swift as Car 00. Keeva Seegobin and Simon Rodriguez may sit this event out as marshals …but who knows … maybe they won’t .. it’s difficult to keep a rally man away from a rally machine and he will occupy the left if he can’t hold down the right side … However, as the TTRC fans will tell you, surprises can and will pop up at the briefing, which occurs at the Ato Boldon Stadium on July 17th from 7:00pm. .. so the list above is by no means all inclusive.
The display of rally machines brands is also impressive – B13, EVOs, SUBARUs, MIRAGE, Mazda 323, RunX, Hyundai Scoupe, Escort …. with the million dollar question being… what is Captain <Bench> Lum Hung piloting and introducing to the Goliath this year? The Flying Bench has been secreting his new machine close to home and heart. The TTRC supporters are just chomping at the bit waiting for next Sunday .. and they will not be disappointed as the TTRC executives continue to plan the event and ensure that the stage is prepared for their drivers’ comeback.
As with previous events <Racing the Zig Zag> will not be possible without our titled sponsors STAG and ULTRA. We are also beholden to Junior Sammy Group of companies, Batchasingn Quarries, Tropical Power Limited, Oracle Signs, Texprint, E-maginative Media, Trinituner/Zorce, Trinturbo and now Illuminat, the latest addition to our sponsor list as the Club’s official Communications provider.
We are also always thankful to our officials including our marshals – Franklyn Seegobin, the President, will role as Clerk of the Course, Graveney – our Chief Marshal, Uncle Lennox and wife, Dr. Surendra and Shelley Ann Dhanraj, Genevieve, Arvind, Julie, Alicia, Marlon, David, Neyrad, Anil, Riaaz, Arshaad, Shiva and Yugesh, Sayyad, Roshan, Sheldon, Reyos and the names go on – thank you, thank you for your continued support in spite of the weather … all for the love of the sport.
Fans and supporters, please do come prepared for adverse weather on July 20th.

Sio, Keeva,
All i seem to be hearing from you boys is talk, we are one week away - let's hear some engines starting instead.
stop posting idle jibber jabber on the forum and get your arses in a rally suit.
T-minus 6 days and counting..........but if you decide not to run (be it out of fear or otherwise) at least let me know where you will be so i can slow down and wave hello.

can't wait...
BTW... I am VERY VERY happy to see that the TTRC has partnered with Illuminat for communications. This is a HUGE step forward. If they can maintain communications throughout the Roller Coaster... then communications at other stage locations will be a breeze. I suggest that the TTRC encourage representatives from the company to be present (even in spectator form) to see first hand our communication needs.
I hope this is the first step towards a centrally located Rally Control. |

this from another thread in the ole talk forum
something to monitor
THE AREA OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED ABOUT 950 MILES EAST OF THE LESSER
ANTILLES HAS CHANGED LITTLE IN ORGANIZATION THIS MORNING.
ALTHOUGH THIS SYSTEM STILL HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME A TROPICAL
DEPRESSION WITHIN THE NEXT DAY OR SO...ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS ARE
BECOMING LESS FAVORABLE FOR DEVELOPMENT. |
