Yo Tuners,
I need some advice or your thoughts. I just bought a 2005 Fielder. When I carried it for a tune up the mechaninc said that the owners never changes the oil and it had sludge in the engine. The engine not smoking or anything like that but I used to hear a loud noise when I start on mornings. I think the noise is gone now since the oil change but he advised me to keep flushing the engine every month to get the sludge out.
Can my engine be damaged? Or should I be ok once the sludge comes out? |

well there's several articles in Tech Stuff about engine flushing and its benefits...that noise u get on start-up may well be clogged or restricted oil passages starving the head for oil...quick oil change intervals will work, but a long process and it's pricey and it may not deal with the thick sludge
I say an engine flush, followed by a "rinse" with "flushing oil" (see Tech Stuff for more info) and then a short change interval...I also suggest that while u're in the process of flushing, that u drop the sump and clean it along with the oil pickup and strainer |

| Thanks bro I really really appreciate it. But do you think my engine can be damaged at all? The noise seems to be gone and the car works fine. You seem very experienced, what are your thoughts? |

| Toyota had a problem with engine slush. Like Hook say, do a engine flush and change your oil regular. Also use only 10W30 oil in these engines. If you are not losing power and are not burning oil, I doubt there might be any engine damage. But you can do a compression test to be on the safe side. |

Fellas, I still hearing a loud noise only when I start on mornings... My mechanic said it is because of all the sludge that accumulated in the engine, you will get this sound when the engine is cold??? I think he mentioned that the timing belt may need servicing??? My friend told me that it may be the starter but the starter was serviced recently??? The noise is like a grating sound for about half a second and then it goes. If I switch off and start again the noise is gone....
Let me know your thoughts peeps... I really appreciate any feedback.... |

^^ oil flow seems to be restricted, have your mech check your oil pressure and your oil pump. while he's down there let him check your rod and main bearing condition and clearances .
the noise u seem to be hearing on start up could be bearing related |

| sounds like the engine bearings have too much clearance now (sludge damage). |

Yo peeps,
I changed my oil last week and the noise started to lessen on mornings. Sometimes I wont hear it or it may be mild. I carried the car by the mechanic today and he took out the crankcase and the strainer and cleaned it. He said I am more or less "slude free"!!!!
I going to collect it now. I hope that the noise has stopped totally. I will let you know how it working. |
