| Dude... we're not that big... it's just a couple of diesel (some turbo) freaks who share information and respect one another's opinion. |

Cause the filter traps the impurities, etc in the oil
You can change the filter without changing the oil - as with synthetic oils. I think sweeks does this, but you can't NOT change the filter.
Does this clear up the concern? Or I misreading you? |

to me it seems good common practice.....
....by leaving in the old filter, you "dirty" the new clean oil you just poured in.
comes like taking a bath and putting orn the same dirty drawers before a hot date.... |

Yes I'm thinking about changing the filters every 5k and leaving the synthetic oil for 10k but I haven't done so yet. I've read online where it's done in countries like Australia etc.
Unless it's a common rail engine, the high level of soot in the engine really messes up the filters and the oil breaks down fast. Hence the reason a regular mineral oil change is recommended at 5000km. With my previous hilux (2L engine), I changed at 6000km and never had any problems.
Anyway to answer the question....
"does the filter have to be changed every oil change ?"
Yes... if it's a regular diesel, change that oil filter regularly (no more than 7500km)

Let me know how the test drive of the new Hilux goes. I find them really expensive man.
Have you gotten a mechanic to look at the glow plug yet? I don't have much experience with them. What's the glow pluy life span? |

Yeah boy, the guy call a price there for that Hilux that made me choke on meh spit $275 or something so. When I hear '2-7' I stop listening...
No I ain't gone by my mechanic yet... He says to pass in anytime. But I wanna get meh oil and do an oil change one time. No sense in going back next week to change the oil.
I am sticking with the Castrol Ultramax Turbo Guardian3 unless allyuh fellas suggest otherwise. *hint hint nudge nudge*
Glow plugs SUPPOSED to last pretty long. The original plugs lasted 150K km. I put in NGK last time, but apparently one is going.
Now I am just speculating that it is the glow plug based on the problems I am getting - unburnt diesel and rough idle on a morning. Those were the symptoms last time.
If it IS the glow plug, I am going to go search for a better set. Or maybe I have a more serious problem which causing it to go
Anyway... SPECK-YOU-LAY-SHUN

Wagon R.... don't sweat the K&N filter... I've been looking but it's kind of hard to source, besides I've been reading some reviews and I'm not sure if it's all that unless you're really pushing it and you're running a turbo.
Roadhog... you've been missing in action man....
Freak....the difference in high quality oils are very insignificant .... castrol, mobil, shell.... etc etc... just be sure to change regulary. Different dealers uses different brands based on the bulk discounts they get. |
