equipped2ripp yea something like that. More like when you put it in reverse and try to put it in 1st there is a grind to get the gear in. and i need to ride the clutch more than usual to change gear or going up a hill from a standstil.

the gearbox oil is all topped up.

Gras...give the boys some background info here... what kind of vehicle? how old? mileage?

From what you're saying it sounding like it be related to the pressure and clutch plate.... or it might be the pilot bearing in there going.

it is a Mazda b2500 turbo 4x4 jus about 1 yr old less than 50K mileage. Has been routinely serviced by southern sales as it is still under warranty.

seems like other makes of 4x4's seem to be giving the same problem.

hmmm...

That kind of mileage ain't much at all and since it's a new vehicle still under warranty Southern Sales should cover it.

I know at times that Mazda's clutch gets really hard.

Gras is the clutch fluid black? If it is, try changing the rubbers before having to drop the gearbox.

Problems with grating gears could be:
Clutch related - check master/slave for leaks.
Pilot Gear bearing (?) - of which there are two. If the shifter feels a lil loose in your hands, this may be the problem

But since, this sounds like a NEW vehicle, then I would say that can't drive gears Very Happy

j/k Laughing Laughing

Val, is a Vigo... Mr. Green

I inquired about the local Hilux - they are WAY expensive - $280K for the auto 3.0TD and $220 for the MT 3.0TD.... I asked the sales rep what's the big difference in price, she said cause of the transmission mostly. Which I think is real crap.

Also, the local Hilux only comes with driver's side airbag... Crazy huh Question

Bleeding Freak.... The newer diesel are now coming with common rail technology and with the 1kD-FTV (3.0) and 2KD-FTV (2.5) engines. I understand the Common Rail engines service schedules are 10 000km instead of 5 000km. I'm waiting to see what these local dealerships say.

I can only comment on the 1kz-te which I've researched. Note that even though the SR5s and the Prado has the same engine, the SR5s are built for power and the Prados are faster. The newer Prado (2005), Fortuner and 3.0 Hilux all have the 1KD-FTV.

Lots of good links/reviews on the internet for the SR5s 1kz-te:

http://fastlane.com.au/4WD-OffRoad/Rev_Hilux_turbo.htm
http://www.productreview.com.au/showitem.php?item_id=1461
http://www.brian894x4.com/Hiluxreview13.html
http://www.brian894x4.com/HiluxAUpressreleases.html

Good
Loads of power 3.0 TD
Fairly quiet
Very advance diesel engine
Glow plugs warm up in a split second

Bad
Not as economical as the other diesel engines (I had a 4x2 hilux with a 2L)
The older 1kz-te with the copper radiators (hilux surf and some prados) has been known to overheat. The newer vehicles are fitted with aluminum radiators which are much better. Be sure to use Toyota Long Life coolant. Haven't heard of any problems with the SR5 and overheating though.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Vigo comes new, NOT from TTTL.

Those are the ones with the roof racks, front bars, pneumatic tray covers, etc etc. They also cheaper...

When it comes I'll let you know exactly the differences...
