yeah, i don't think they bring automatic 4x4's... just the 4x2 XLT hi-rider
you'll see "AUTOMATIC" written on the left side of the tailgate with "XLT" ontop of it. the "Hi-Rider" sticker is on the rear fender.

Not really, my gas usually lasts about 3 days - 4 days if I don't push it. (Toyota nah!)
I drive from Tunapuna to Chaguaramas for work every day. The difference is in the cost of the fuels. I don't drive slowly either. |

Roadhog....I running Michelin LTX on the SR5... put them on in June. No signs of wear so far but gives a bumpy ride. It's very quiet and durable. I also had LTX on my previous 4x2 hilux and got 5 years/almost 100 000km, when one went bad.
Quick serve usually have sale this time of year (buy three and get one free). The Michelin Syncrone is a good tyre too and gives a smoother ride but costs more. Next time around I'll save up and try the Syncrone. |

CIVICMINDED... I'm a bit surprised at the fact that you're force to use their filters. I guess that's one way they make money.
It's also the first time that time that I'm hearing that having the oil level at half on the dipstick is normal. I have recently started using Mobil1 15w 40 in my 1kz-te engine and it hasn't dropped at all. But then again... they say it's normal for diesel engines to consume some oil (but not that much!!).
I suggest you talk to the other mazda/ranger owners. And see what their oil consumption is like.
What fuel additive do they use? |
I contacted the service department and they inform me that they are the only ones to supply the Air Filter otherwise they will void my warranty...I thought that was realll sheit.
I did found it strange at the beginning about the oil level - i even took the ranger back to the firm and they top it up for me at no cost...but they did warn me that it will go back down again - and sure enough it did..less than a week later.

Civic Minded .... I've heard of this problem before with the Mazdas i.e. excessive oil consumption. However BleedingFreek runs a Mazda and have never had that problem. You'll have no choice but to be topping up quite often after your warranty expires. If you cruise, does it burn less oil?
Road Hog.... the wholesale price were $1240 per tyre (31x10.5x15) for the LTX. Of course you can get cheaper tyres but I'm planning on keeping the SR5 for a while. |

Oh yeah the Michelins come stock with the F/L and SDX madzas... yum yum 265/70 15s
bee-yooo-dee-full!
Really well worth it. Off-road traction is A+
Oh and I did notice a lil oil burn off when I checked the engine this weekend.
( sweeks, you and yuh goat mouth )
Had to add half a quart. Maybe it's the lighter oil? It's been 2000 km since I changed to the 15W40. |

Don't go there... I leave at 5:45 in the morning to avoid traffic. And usually don't leave town till after dark or just about. That stop/go traffic wrecks havoc on the fuel economy! Which I will get anyhow at some poit of my trip to and from work. (Usually in the evening)
Plus I get to come into POS at some point in time during the week during the day...
Anyways, I did 250 km between yesterday and today and the tank is about 2/3 full. Took a day off today and made a drive from Curepe thru Chaguanas to Tabaquite to Rio Claro to Mayaro then back home thru Grande. Drove moderately / casually most of the time with A/C half of the trip. Never really stopped until I got to Rio Claro.
I think the sweet spot of my diesel is around 2250 - 2750 rpm. That's where I seem to be getting the best fuel economy. That's between 80 and 100 kmph BTW... It is mind boggling to go so slow sometimes |

...and also, remember i told you'll that anywhere between 80-100kph is where you'll sip the most.
yes it maybe slow, but it's also the law (although vans our size speed limit is 65kph). i for one usually stay within 80-90kph 95% of the time....
....but when yuh have no turbo, that's life. |

TEN COMMANDMENTS
FOR DIESEL MAINTENANCE
1. Thou shalt keep thine engine clean and in adjustment that thy life in its company shall be long and that the owner shall increase thy pay.
2. Know thy engine and all its parts and functions, else thou shalt be in some unholy spot.
3. Be not wise in thine own conceit. Remember the factory instructions and keep them holy, lest repairs be thine undoing.
4. Be not loose in thy jaw hinges for no man knoweth all about Diesels. The truly wise absorbeth much knowledge and exceedeth little, and he who so doeth shall gain repute among his fellows and favors among his superiors.
5. For all things in this life that thou desireth thou shalt also pay plenty and for the wisdom of experience, no less. Advice from the multitudes costeth nothing and is usually worth just that.
6. In the books thou mayest read what to do and when, but only the voice of experience may tell thee why and how, else thy reading of what and when shall but plague thee with smoke.
7. God maketh the earth to rotate endlessly without bearings, or oil, but not thy Diesel.
8. Curse not thine engine when it turneth not. Curse rather thine own stupidity.
9. Steam engines and gas engines may long turn over though sloppy; a Diesel not so. With gauges and mikes be thou ever busy.
10. The eternal eye watcheth universal operations, but thou shalt not rely upon it as to thy Diesel. Thine own vigilance is the price thou payest for thy job. |

Yes yes... slow is right. And I know that sweet spot is right where the turbo doing the most blowing....
But I disagree with you on the speed limit though. The speed limit of 65kmph is for Heavy (Class 4) vehicles and above - which is MGW greater than 3500 kgs. We had a 130 Defender in work and it's MGW was 3500kgs, which caused an issue as to whether it was Heavy T or not.
At the end of the day we all had to go get our Class 4 to drive it. (Not that I minded, company paid for everything...) |

.....back up there parnder....the law states that any " goods vehicle the lic'd MGW of which exceeds 2540kg with or without trailer " and goods vehicle the licensed MGW of which does not exceed 2540kg with trailer "
....h/way - 65kph
....main roads - 50kph.
even if your weight is lighter than what is stated, the fact that your van is "T" registered.....your're a goods vehicle.
the only thing we'll get away from is that if caught in a speed trap.....once yuh doing 80kph, the officers prob. wouldn't know this part of the law.
i have the entire motor vehicle act on my desk, so i'll research it and get back to you'll. |

Okay den... in Class 4 regs says nuffin about that eh! Just so you know my source. And what I saw was 3500kgs MGW as classification form Heavy T
