the wife recently sold her car and we bought the 4x4 Ranger Automatic turbo diesel(2 months ago).
Now before you all shoot me down for buying a Auto 4x4 consider this -
The Ford Ranger Automatic comes with an LSD Tranny that actually produce more PSI than the manual. This vehicle does alot of highway/ traffic driving- so less stress using a clutch. Plus, even thou it is auto - i have not loss any towing capabilities or torque over the manual.
|
Good going. I was trying to get a automatic diesel as well and the Ford was the only option earlier this year. I think the automatic Turbo Diesel Hilux from TTTL is supposed to be here already. But a lil outta my price range. Auto diesels from Mazda supposed to be coming soon.
BTW I saw one of those automatic Rangers move... pull off was faster than the manual Mazda I was driving (work vehicle) and both vehicles were new(ish). I was amazed.
So anyway, how does it work offroad? |

^.......like yuh eh read civic's response properly......"wife's vehicle".......wheni saw him two days after he got it, he himself told me that off road will be little to none.
when get my guages i want to mount them inside the guage cluster. if you don't know what a L2 non-turbo cluster looks like, there are only 3 guages, speedo in the middle and fuel and temp. left and right respecfully.
more than likely i'll mount them in front of the speedo as it take up the most space. i like val's mount position but i want my guages in line of sight. if i don't mount them there, i'll screw them down on the outside of the cluster but to the left.
....i may also try to get a diesel tach as i don't have one, not that i really need it but i can't have a rally super special vehicle and no tach... |

I think this is your best bet. I was going to install them in the original cluster, but that would be way too much headache to take apart the dashboard. |

| most basic Non Turbo vans of that era don't come with Tachometers (L200, B2500). The higher end and turbo versions came with tachs as standard. |

CIVICMINDED... I'm a bit surprised at the fact that you're force to use their filters. I guess that's one way they make money.
It's also the first time that time that I'm hearing that having the oil level at half on the dipstick is normal. I have recently started using Mobil1 15w 40 in my 1kz-te engine and it hasn't dropped at all. But then again... they say it's normal for diesel engines to consume some oil (but not that much!!).
I suggest you talk to the other mazda/ranger owners. And see what their oil consumption is like.
What fuel additive do they use? |

Whatcha got? I bought some Michelin (yes Michelin!) wiper blades weekend. Working good so far! No noise, just clean (well they new, so obviously clean!) Those Pylons and Rainbox goes make a kinda noise sometimes that annoys me... and sometimes they skip.

My problem with the tools is that the area behind the seat is... well small... And I already have rope, and cutlass, and more rope, and tow rope and gloves and ... |

I can't be sure, but I don't think 2 quarts of oil shouldn't disappear so fast. Anyways, like I telling you guys - 7 years and never had to top up the oil between oil changes... Okay once when I didn't put back the dip stick and... well that was a mess... And I run that Mazda hard!
been using the turbo Guardian3 for few weeks (2500km) now and no worries whatsoever. Oil light comes off in about 3 seconds.
As I cleaned the strainer and changed the filter, performance back up to par! Still managing to get 160 km/h from the ole girl.
This weekend I have to change diff oil, gearbox and transfer case oil. nay suggestions as to brands? Last change was Bel Ray that NP made. |

5 quarts SAE 140
small bottle of clutch fluid
quart of power steering fluid

....'freak, i know the space small so recently i bought a nice size tool kit to hold my tow strap, 4 tie straps and a cargo net (got this in my wagon and kept it when i sold it).
the top part i using to hold the big tools (pliers, vice grip, spanners). the kit can't fit behind the seat but seeing that is only me mostly in the van, it sits behind my seat. the socket set will go behind the back seat. could never have enough tools.
as for the wipers, i got the pylons. they worked well for me and they are one of the few wipers i get in my small size. the windscreen in the L2 is very short compared to other 4x4s. can't use nothing bigger than 15". |

Here's a pic. It's a Work in Progress, I haven't gotten the ammeter wired up, or the Water Temp Gauge installed but the latter is going in the middle of the mount. But you get the idea.
