I hearing allyuh but not taking allyuh on *grin.
Actually I did a bit of offroading recently. I went to see some agricultural land that was up for sale and it rained. The guy told me to park up and walk in. I told him that was okay (and was really looking for an excuse to engage the 4wd).
Needless to say, before I left I made sure to get the underwash and shock oil done. I've got van inspection when I get back.
About a year ago, two weeks before I bought the SR5, I did a lot of research on it and read lots of reviews. According to the reviews, the SR5 performs best off road. Honestly though, I bought her because of the way she looks and because of her potential. Allyuh done know she's my pretty girl.
BTW Boxman... you do know that you will be required to do inspection annually right? And if those rims are oversized, you might not get through. |

Sweeks dont worry man... you driving a toyota so you wouldn't stick. And in the extremely unlikely event that that happens, I will ensure a fellow hilux man will assist you.
Saied, I like how the red looks... but you'll have to keep it clean with the wet look...
Bleading, is that pic in matura? |

323_Wagon thanks for the back up and offer to help. You know these fellas only giving me talks. I know they have got my back too....
How's the lux idling now? Any improvements?
Wagon_R... yes ... believe it or not....she does see the mud on and off. I admit, at times I like when she's dirty.
We're almost to 100 pages.... and counting down to it. Funny thing is how we've met each other online. I've met Freak, Wagon_R, RoadHog and Saied in person. Still looking forward to meeting everyone else.

Ques: In terms pulling/towing a vehicle.... how's that done?
At the front of the lux, under the bumper there's a hook. I've used it for pulling out someone who was stuck.
In terms of towing someone, I've tied rope to the leaf spring but I wasn't sure if that was correct.
What's the right way of towing someone? |

^yep....your owner manual would tell you the best places for towing and i urge everyone to follow it
i don't have any hooks in front as the brush bar blocks it. |

here's my brain teaser....
..i passed a l200 on the highway yesterday and the drive shaft was busted i.e it let go at the diff end and was hanging down.
...could you drive a van in such a condition by engaging the 4WD high setting and using the front wheels to move the van. (of course yuh tie up the loose shaft but not to tight.)
...it is something that could happen to any of us and this might be a way to prevent anyone of us from being stranded. |

Sweeks, I know them fellas have your back... I just making sure we keeping it in the toyota family.
The idling with the lux is not a big issue. It idles normally. Its just that every 25 seconds or so, the engine gives a lil shudder. The customer rep in TTTL says thats normal with a diesel engine. This being my first diesel I wanted to make sure everything is working properly. Its been doing that since I collected it 3 months ago.
I wonder if we should have a lil get together after work the day we hit the 100 pages. I think this is the longest thread on tuner (or at least the one I've seen). This will give us a chance to meet and lime a little before we head out to the run. |

I read an article about this a while ago. Some guy's rear drive shaft broke, but he was able to drive for a while before the noise of the driveshaft on the road made him stop. I personally think its possible to drive a vehicle like that in an emergency scenario. |

i heard its better to pull out a vehicle in Reverse, bcause u'll get more grip in reversing.....
eg...we had to move a concrete slab....so a guy with a 4WD frontier came and tied up the slab to the back of the van and began pulling.....but the rear tyres started to skid, also after a couple of tries, he turned around the van and tied it to the front, and he pulled the slab with ease.....
i also heard that it is not good to tow with the 4WD on, for long distances?
any one ever heard this? |

yes, its possible......But if u driving fast, and u drive shaft broke out and draggin in the road......it could cause the vehicle to flip over......thats why u have to ensure that ur vehicle has a U bracket to catch the shaft it it falls out.... |

The reverse gear is supposed to be the most powerful gear.
Someone told me to reverse is better for things like that since the front has more weight than an empty tray, thus providing more traction.
With respect to towing with 4WD on, I read an article that essentially said there's not benefit in doing that over 2WD. |

Can driving with 4wd on normall road be dangerous?
Bcause, my cousin had a Toyota Surf..and he was driving, and the van hit a puddle of water and it caused the van to pull and hit the pavement and flipped......
but someone said, the van pulled bcause he was driving with the 4wd on |

Very true... When 4x4s had a solid front axle with a drive shaft from the center diff. and the front drive shaft came loose it would hit the road and flip the vehicle. After a while this became known as pole vaulting a vehicle. I think this is where the concept of the catch bracket came up. |
