I remember team loco was doing independent testing of diesel from different stations.

I usually put fuel at the gas station corner tragarete and maraval road. I've had no problems yet... But then again I've only crossed 7200Km this week

funny thing is we have 2 diesel vehicles and never had any serious problems wrt to diesel quality other than the low cetane content, once the vehicles are serviced regularly and properly no problems

is it just the station that u buy your diesel from?
i buy mine from the corner of la puerta and diego main road
and by peakes
sometimes when in dire need at other gas stations but those are the most frequented by me

Silva Mera ... I've been driving hilux for the past 7 years. A 1997 4x2 (2L) and a 2003 4x4 (1kz-te). Can I assume it's a 2005 new model using common rail tech you're driving ? (I can't remember).

During that 7 years I've never seen my fuel light common on, never had to bleed the fuel filter nor have gone under 1/4 tank more that 5 times. I've also been using sakura oil and fuel filter. (I recently upgraded my air filter to an original toyota and have been getting improved mileage but that's another story)

I think draining the fuel tank is extreme and somewhat impractical. I'm honestly think you need a more professional opinion and that if it's a common rail engine, the system is very very sensitive. You're right....NP isn't going to do anything and if they're do, do you believe their actions can be enforced at the gas stations?

My recommendations are
1. Never go less than 1/4 tank
2. Watch where you full up. The guys here would tell you they're picky when it comes to gas stations.
3. If you are ever going to full up at a gas station and see those NP trucks distributing diesel at the gas station, check back after at least 2 hours.
4. If you're up to trying fuel treatments, try them in very minute amounts.

Good luck.

Agreed.

With the onset of the rainy season I try not to let the fuel drop below 1/2 tank. You never know when there might be a flood or gas shortage scare.

I think we should create our own list "approved" gas stations so we can refuel and not have to worry about the consequences.

I'm doing some more research into the common rail and treatments scenario. Thus far, I'm being cautious and have decided not to experiment with my hilux. I'll probably ask toyota for their stance on this issue (although i'm guessing they wont have an official one).

Anyone having problems with water in their diesel, over the weekend i filled up the hilux and soon after the fuel low light began flasing, the new hilux owners will know that when this happens you need to bleed the fuel pump because water has accumulated there, well i let the water drain out and primed back up the pump, when i checked the dam,n light still on , only now it stop blinking and on full time...

well monday morning bright and early, i reach down toyota buy new fuel filter, air filter , oil filter and oil, (the van was due for its 30,000k service so i decided to do everything on time, took it to my mechanic, changed all filters and oil, i say problem should be fixed with that, well i cuss when i switch on and the light still watching meh, i head back toyota and spoke to a service rep who said that they have had alot of cases where customers are complaining about this problem, he said the only fix was to pull down the tank and drain it... Evil or Very Mad .......i dropped it off this morning and the estimated cost is about $600.00 plus the filters and oil and labout from Monday in total about $1500.00....

The rep i spoke to this morning said they have prepared a report and sent it to NP complaining about the crappy diesel we are getting...i don't have much faith that NP will do anything about this, so do i have to put aside money every few months to pull down my tank and drain it?
Evil or Very Mad

so anyone having this problem, and is there anything i can do to minimise or avoid this in the future?

I had to pull down my tank twice in 3 weeks.

solution buy fuel from only 1 station u trust man.

myth....the fuel line goes right down to the bottom of the tank (where the water is)

and once there is water it will remain in the bottom of the tank less mixing for shake up...till it ends up in thr filter..if there is a lot u will have to drain it.

savvy

hey guys, yep its a new model hilux, and yes i did use a fuel treatment about 1 month ago.

When i changed the fuel filter on monday the mech suggested i put another treatment into the fuel pump with the new filter, i think it was the result of buying some bad diesel, this has happened about twice before but it was always corrected when i drained the pump, this time it seemed like there was just too much water, i think i will stick to the quick shops from now on. the thing is i hardly ever let the tank drop below half....but i am in the curepe area and i really hate to go to the quick shop in the junction, are there any other stations in the area with new tanks and pumps, the one where i usually fill up is by KFC valsayn, they have new pumps but i think the tanks are still old.

Toyota called to say the van is ready, they pulled down the tank and drained the "sediment" something, anyways bill is about $700.00, when i get down there this evening i 'll get some more details.

from what i gather, these new vehicles with the common rail are veeerry sensitive to water, we have other older diesel vehicles and them thing running on any ole diesel yuh thown in............. Confused
