I understand a lot of the truck people retime the pumps in their fleet to
work better with the lower grade diesel here
they say it is better than boosting the fuel with kerosene |
I think KiD did his somewhere in Gasparillo? Write or Rung?
Oh.. and kerosene is not boosting the CN of the fuel. It's actually reducing it. |

Adding kerosene to your diesel engine will sometimes damage your injector pump because it provides less lubrication than diesel.
Kerosene is a heating fuel that is made for use in lamps and other heating applications - and not for use in vehicles or generators.
Diesel fuels have various flow enhancing additives to improve the regulated movement of fuel and sustained high pressure of today's fuel pumps.
This is just part of the explanation without getting confused...
And I may be wrong about kerosene reducing the CN of the diesel in the tank...
Where the gurus on this one? |

that's why all those taxi vehicles give trouble.... and the drivers complain about it being bad fuel.
i've seen taxis putting $10 and $15 kerosene and then putting the rest in diesel... and when they start up to pull off at the station, they give off white smoke and all you smell is kerosene.
kerosene was $1.28/L before and they raised it to $1.50/L because of that same issue were taxis were putting kerosene in the tanks because it was cheaper... yet they still doing the same dotishness. |

Confession time.... with my previous 4x2 lux (non turbo)... I did that like once every 2 months ... I'd put like $5 - $10 kerosene per full up. Besides that and Amsoil cetane booster, never used any other additives and that van worked really well with no excess smoking.
I honestly think the trick to this is doing it in moderation. The taxi drivers probably over did it.
These days I've used Amsoil treatments with the newer lux but not too regularly since I've been warned by the seller and my mechanic. And I'll admit I've used kerosene in the new lux but not very often. If I do, it'll be less than $5 per fill up. |

ive used the amsoil cetane boost in a mitsu l300 and i found it did wonders
it quieted the rattling, got better mileage and less smoke
but i used it VERRYY sparingly
like about 1 oz per fillup |

Been warned? Are the Amsoil products bad in the long run? |

Jet A1 is kerosene. That is correct. It's a higher grade - just a little lighter than K1 kerosene. Which is just a little lighter than D1 and D2 diesel |

Fellas with newer rides using common rail technology should tread carefully with these additives (cetane booster, kerosene etc) since the fuel system is a lot more sensitive.
Generally....over using amsoil products products isn't recommended since its potency can damage the injection system. |
