I've seen many passenger diesel vehicles (all makes and models) in Europe.
They all use common rail technology and some of their service schedule is 18 000 miles or almost 30 000km believe it or not. |

Sniper... that's how a new oil change feels........ esp with a diesel. Hence the reason you always hear mechanics and other experience car enthusiast talk about regular oil changes.
Not sure about the blow off valve... not into too much modifications.
Where's the rest of the diesel crew? Everyone out this weekend? |

| SNIPER 3000,No, i dont tink a BOV will work on a diesel, bcause a diesel engine has no trottle plate to shut off the excess boost, therefore is cannot backpressure the air through the BOV. |

Saeid.... the engine block should be the same .... 4D56.
I've seen this modification but if you go automatic with diesel... you lose some horse power. The engine and transmission you might get but not sure what condition you'll get in it especially the turbo. |

One of the most important things to consider is if the pickup was owned by a construction company (small, large, doesnt matter) or an oil services company. Those guys really destroy vehicles. Also, be careful or any used vehicles from Southern Sales as those vehicles were more than likely leases for the heavy industry, construction companies like Bechtel and Carillon, etc. |

mrboxman... What Freak is saying is true but you might be lucky to get a good one (for e.g. if was driven by a manager).
You might be lucky to get a decent deal... keep your eyes in the classifieds. |

I think the mounts should be the same as well. They are both from the same platform wrt wheelbase, etc. so lining up shouldnt be a problem. I am not 100% sure, but I think you could get through easily enough.
Cost of the engine and tranny though... Try about $12-15K... I could be wrong. |

Okay, 90K will get you something like TBM, TBN, TBO.
Look for the usual:
Ask to see the certified copy to see who exactly owned the vehicle. You'll get a history of ownership from this.
Ask about the type of oil used, the service schedule, etc. Feel out the person who is answering you to see if they really know about the schedule of service, etc. If a person really doesnt know they should say.
Ask about accidents: body work can be easily fixed. Mechanical, suspension work require alot of attention in cases of a serious accident. Remember diesel parts / pickup parts are more expensive.
If a 4WD, ask about the off road capability. Ask the owner if they ever used it.
When you test drive: If 4WD - make sure to engage the 4WD and make a full lock turn. If it has LSD, it will skip at the back a little.
Pay attention to any sounds like a slight creaking or cracking at the front axles - this may be a sign of worn CV joints. Better yet, let the owner drive it and listen for it from the outside.
Of course, inspect the engine. If someone has it cleaned up nicely, don't think that they only cleaned it up to wash away oil stains, leaks, etc. Think of it as a person who is trying to give you a clean vehicle, and has a lil pride in its appearance
Yeah they may be leaks, but he/she did care to at least clean it up for you.
Check belts, etc. ask about the drive belt - diesel engines NEED to have their timing belt changed on TIME cause these are interference engines.
Giving all these considerations, you will know just HOW much you will have to pull out in say 3, 6, or 12 months to keep the vehicle in working condition.
And we always here for purchasing advice. |

Boy I went the other direction yes - I buy Castrol Ultramax 25W60 to change in the pickup. Going to get that done maybe tomorrow. 179,700 km right now. |
