Would switching different oils in your engine so often affect the buildup of sludge? I was under the impression that you should use one type of engine oil continuously as much as possible. |

I only ever used Castrol Ultramax in the engine for the past 5-6 years... That was a 25W50 oil.
Last week I changed to the Castrol TurboGuard. It's essentially a more advanced Ultramax in 15W40.
I didn't think along those lines when I was changing the oil, but in hindsight I would say it's the same Castrol diesel engine oil so chemically, it can't be much different... Right? |

| the turboguard guardian3 is way more advanced than the ultramax... the ultramax is for older, high mileage diesel engines |

Fellas I just switched from Castrol Ultramax to Mobile Delvac1. It was my 30 000km service. I was thinking about using an engine flush but my mechanic advised against it.
My big question now how long should I run the synthetic oil between service intervals. I'm thinking around 7000 - 8000 km.
I've seen some service interval for some diesel engines in the UK go up to 30 000km.
I'm open to suggestions. |

sweeks, keep your service intervals about the same. That's my advice.
With the Ultramax I used to change every 7500km, and I intend to keep that same interval. Maintenance is the key to keeping your diesel running good!
If you run 8000 km between oil changes, I don't see why you can't go to 10,000km. I won't, though, with the turbo and all that. |

What type of vehicle/engine do you have? What type of filter do you use?
http://www.mobil.com/USA-En...Diesel_Engine_Oil_FAQ.asp
Have a look at the link above. It changed my entire perspective. I'm now thinking about running the Delvac 1 full synthetic oil to 12 000km and changing the filter (Sakura) at 6000km.
I'll continue researching. |

the synthetic can be changed every 8-10K or so. i think in the UK it would differ because of atmospheric conditions and driving patterns, or i may be wrong |

| Also the quality of diesel in the UK is of a much higher cleaner standard. |

sweeks do you run your diesel hard, like some of us do?
E.g. - I use full syntec in my car, use fuel treatments, keep that girl up to mark, and I change oil at 7500km. No compromise...
I rather have spend a lil money and change my oil that have to try to repair that engine...
Similarly, I treat the diesel well - fuel treatments, clean air filter, etc. I just don't use syntec oil in it - that's the only difference. Change interval is also 7500km. Again I rather spend a lil money and change the oil than try to fix a diesel engine!
BTW, it's a Mazda B2500 WLT.
Maybe if I were using syntec oil, I would go to 10K. Remember as well - keep monitoring the engine for performance changes - which can be felt easily with a diesel engine.
Remember as well - modern vehicle manfucturer's suggest oil changes at 15K and even 25K km intervals... would you trust that? |

| i would trust it..... but as i said before, look at our atmospheric conditions and driving patterns.... and the quality of diesel as well.. the oil's gotta do a lot for us... changing at 15K and 25K should be done at a lesser interval. |

While we don't have to have summer and winter tyres, oils, coolants, etc. We do have a blistering heat regardless of rain or shine. I know we ain't desert conditions, but it's really horrible sometimes.
There are times when I purposefully drive slower, or less aggressively, cause the ambient temperature is so high - mid 30s
Under normal driving conditions, I would change my oil less frequently.
To quote from the link above:
| Quote: | Large, over-the-road trucks (class may extend drain intervals based predominantly on driving highway miles, which are relatively easy on an engine... |
Our classify driving conditions would have to take into consideration: stop-go traffic, mixed with short highway bursts, bumpy roads, high ambient temperatures, poor fuel quality, etc...
The choice will remains your at the end of the day.
BTW sweeks, how much did you pay for the Delvac? |

Good input guys.
Most of my driving is highway and sometimes traffic. Rarely I run the 1kz-te hard since there's too much traffic on the roads. I haven't gotten to the top end yet.
The cost of the Mobile Delvac 1 is $220 per gallon @ Auto Reputable Dealer in Couva. They only sell by the gallon. |

It might be interesting to find out the wholesale price. Might save a couple $$$. What kind of after market filters do you guys use? Fram, Sakura, Purolater?
I come across the Sakura filters in central regularly and use them.
Bleeding freak... what's WLT? |

I also use the Sakura oil filters and air filters too, and fuel as well...
The WLT is the 2.5L Turbo engine.
But I might be moving up to equipped2ripp standards by month end... if things go okay
