.....i here.....was busy whole weekend with my house warming. de l2 is giving some stress on mornings still......i think the pre-heaters are giving problems.
i have to go 'bago on thursday so i might drop her off tom. other than the hard starting in the morning, she running sweet.....crossed 310,000 last week.
i also recovered the gauge cover sunday and moved my gauges to the steering column.
saied, two things.....any chance i could get a copy of the shop manual and do you want the mud guards.... |

Yeah on both Questions WagonR. Not a problem. I am always in agreement with helping a fellow Tuner especially my L200 and 4x4 diesel brothers.
This is what the book looks like.
PLUS WagonR I STILL WANT TO SEE YOUR L2..... |

time for a little update on the prado. Had to replace the fuel filter(dirtiest ive seen in my life) seeing as it hasent been done for a couple years and the vehicle could not start, upon investigating i found the filter had a pinhole sized hole and fuel was escaping. maybe that could be the explanation for the bad fuel economy. I also think a number of problems such as loss of power(SLOW from a stop) and heavy black smoke might be a result from the intake hose. The hose, right after the air filter is almost severed except for about 1cm thats still attached. can this cause serious problems or is it something that i can overlook?
On a side note i think the cause of the temp. gauge going high was of the excess fuel that was sprayed around as a result of the hole in the fuel filter. it gets reallhy hot! whould this at all affect the temp gauge or is it something else? |

clicking while its starting? could that indicate your battery isnt putting out as much cranking amps as it should?
BTW, where would you get a jumper cable suitable for our vans? I found out the ones for normal car use wont work with the pickups. The wires are too thin and can overheat. |

Could it also mean the cold start sensor? I know when mine was gone bad the glow plugs took forever to warm up, or so I thought - they werent turning on and the engine revved higher-than-usual all the time.
BTW, did an engine wash, underwash, spray, grease and then I wash down and polish with the AutoGlym... ole gurl looks good
I feel I could be a bingo-bag puller

....i forgot to ask......could it be a fuel problem...
patch now called me and as it turns out, he and i both took diesel at the new NP station on maraval road. he called to say that the engine check light is coming on every 2 min. and he currently on his way home.
he has to stop every so often to drain the filter to get it to come off only to have it come back on again minutes later.
i'm wondering if i suffered the same fate but my light didn't come orn.... |

Saied, camera in work - I am not
This weekend... but it go be durdy again by weekend... or in the morning maybe... when i go in work.
wagon r, That wont have anything to do with the fuel, crappy as it may be. That problem is associated with glow plug / cold start sensor / thermostat. Somehow the signal is NOT coming to the system to warm up the diesel... Are you getting the symptoms described below?
White smoke smelling of unburnt diesel?
Excessive vibration? or more than usual vibration?
High revs - about 1000-1100 rpm thru the day at idle speed?
Horrible fuel economy?
Your problem IS temperature related...
Greypatch, your problem seems to be MORE than that fuel filter issue. What are you getting when you bleed the filter? water? Diesel? and how often is the light coming on Are there any sensors that you have probably didn't reconnect

Good that you finally getting around to some maintenance...
wrt the intake - repair immediately. You would be sucking in dirty air cause it's after the filter - the filter isn't doing it's job. Also, you are sucking in HOT air... bad bad cause your air temp sensor will be reading cooler air most likely, sending off you A/F ratio...
wrt the temperature - I could probably say yes. If you are NOT experiencing the problem anymore, then definitely.
Man all I can say is lucky you ain't bun down the van
How is everything working now |

thanks for the advice there freak. patchie should be in here later, he said he'll drive the "rotten pumpkin" to work and may call massy for a fix.
economy is normal, no excessive vibration (is ah ole van i driving... ), tach doesn't show any high idle but the smoke on start up (when it finally starts on mornings) appears white-ish, even in the dark of early morning.
i will look into all three over the weekend. thanks again freak. |

The station at the corner of maraval and tragarete road? I put diesel from there too... Damn... I need to find a new place to get diesel.
As for the jumper cables... The normal ones for cars may work but they tend to get hot and some of them just wont work. I had to jump start the hilux two days ago and with the cable we had, real good quality, it still wasnt getting juice. Had to swap batteries to get it to start.
