Today was a real sour one. I was heading to P.O.S. from Princes Town when I got to around Maritime cus I was going over the hills and coming round the savanna my temperature gauge was at ½ I wanted to die cuz the traffic was so bad and I had to reach my destination by 11:00am and it was now 10:10am. I drove and made it at 10:55 with the temp staying around ½ . Do you guys think this is a reason for concern.
When I was ready to leave it took about 3litres of water. On the drive back home it just went a little above ¼ I thought it was the radiator but when I filled it up and took a look I realized that it’s leaking from the water pump. So I got to change that. Maybe tomorrow. Wagon would you say that’s a reasonable DIY project as I don’t know if a mechanic will be working tomorrow.
Anyways the other thing is that I know the radiator over flow suppose to compensate for water loss but only ¼ of the water was suctioned. Can anyone comment on that. It baffles me, and yes the radiator cover is new. Stresss yes fellas. But in the end I glad I ent blow ah engine.
You guys see the water leaking along there....

Saeid... that doesn't sound like a DIY project. I personally wouldn't attempt that on my own but I'm sure there some of the brothers who might.
On another note that low temperature gauge all the time sounds like there isn't a thermostat. Check that, a lot of mechanics remove the thermostats in older engine but if you're engine has an ecu (I really don't know much about those 4d56), I suggest you get it replaced.
Good luck with getting that problem repaired. |

Thanks Sweeks.
Well, well, well. My dearest brothers in the diesel world. Today was a long one. I didn’t get a mechanic so my brothers and I had a shot at it. SUCCESS!
Bought the Water pump at Faiz in Marabella, cost $385.00. we took about 4 hours all together and we changed the water pump and put on the new Headlights. (Pics to come later) it was a simple enough project and it didn’t meddle with the timing. The thermostat was way pass dead. So I just took it out since there was no way to get one this evening. I am thinking about running without it. I don’t think it will bother anything. Tell me if I am wrong.
After we refilled the radiator I observed another leak. It’s coming from the inner side of the area with the fuel pump is. So getting to it means taking out the entire fuel pump setup, I traced it and there are 2 bolts securing a small plate on there and it’s leaking from there. Any thoughts or ideas guys? It leaks like 2-3 drops a minute.
I also took out all my under body armor and scraped them clean. spayed them with a degreaser and i will mount back up after a good under wash.
All yuh wouldn’t believe this but I was digging under the mirror switch in the center console - cleaning and I found a stash of weed left there by the guy I bought the L2 from I guess. See how ah innocent man could get lockup for nothing. Geezzzzz.
Anyways I still have to change front Disc Pads tomorrow and address that small leek. Tank goodness I have a workshop manual. It’s not 100% but it helps a lot. So keep in touch.

| Does anyone know the size of the oil filter the prado(2001 model) uses and what brand to buy? somewhere in the north preferably. also it has white smoke but i dont think the fuel filter has ever been drained, the vehicle was really neglected. 1 more thing is that my dad says his landcruiser has some water in it, is draining/changing the fuel filter the only solution? |

KiD, the oil filter is bigger than the usual oil filter for cars. as for the brand, you could use fram or sakura.
to get rid of the water, change the fuel filter and bleed the line.
also, use a fuel treatment. |
