SweetTooth, an iPhone bluetooth scanner is available now via Cydia. Sweethtooth scans the area for available bluetooth devices. Unfortunately that's all it does... but I guess it does give some glimmer of hope for a more robust use of the iPhone's bluetooth function eventually...

Hi i just got a 3G 8g recently i wanted to know a few things a bout the iphone
i would like to know 1.how to get free games on my iphone
2.how can i put my own ring tone on the phone
3.my contacts are not registering on the phone

Can some one plz help me with my problems
And am using the new firm ware no turbo sim and it works alright so far

Friend of mines updated his iphone to 2.1..now the wifi and bluetooth doesn't work, and the says thebatterylife is horrible.

Any ideas?

Hey SRASC i did the to app store i have a account but the problem is that they want me to put in my credit card info but the catch is they dont have trinidad listed as a billing address so thats not working,any other suggestions.

Skype has released Skype 2.8 Beta for Mac, the latest version of its internet communications software for Mac users. This new release, which was first demonstrated during ShowStoppers at the Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco, contains a number of new Skype features, including Skype Access and screen sharing. Both of these features will be built into versions of Skype for other operating systems sometime in 2009.

Skype Access is a worldwide, pay-per-minute WiFi hotspot access service provided by Boingo Wireless and enabled by Skype. Skype Access allows Skype users to connect to any of the more than 100,000 Boingo WiFi hotspots worldwide - including airports, hotels, cafes and metropolitan hot zones - with a single click, and to pay per minute only for what they use with Skype Credit. Skype Access scans for available WiFi hotspots and presents a pop-up dialogue box displaying the price-per-minute to use the Boingo network using Skype Credit. With Skype Access, you only pay for what you use, and there’s no need to fiddle with credit cards or log-in details.

The price to use Skype Access to connect to a Boingo WiFi hotspot is based on a flat, global rate of €0.14/$0.19 per minute (€0.16/$0.22 incl. VAT), which will vary based on currency. There are no connection fees or monthly charges for Skype Access. Boingo’s Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy apply and access to all Internet services will be provided on a simple, per minute billing basis. You can keep tabs on how much you’ve spent using Skype Access by signing in to your account on skype.com. When you stop Skype Access, the amount will be deducted from your Skype Credit balance.

“The goal of the major new features in Skype 2.8 Beta for Mac is to makes Skype easier to use everywhere,” said Scott Durchslag, Skype’s Chief Operating Officer. “Skype Access is perfect for those times when you need to make a few Skype calls or send some instant messages or emails while you’re on the go, and screen sharing is a productivity tool that enables collaboration between two parties, regardless of their location.”

The new screen sharing function in Skype 2.8 Beta for Mac enables you to show others something you are working on or to explain how to do something. Similar to a Skype video call, it works by capturing, encrypting and transferring the content of your screen in real-time to the person you are sharing your screen with. Once there, the content is decrypted and shown to the other person on their screen. If you are using Skype 2.8 Beta for Mac, you are also able to share your screen with Skype for Windows and Skype for Linux users, but cannot see theirs (yet).

Skype 2.8 Beta for Mac newly incorporates a number of other nice Skype features:
- Improved chat management: you can sort chats in the drawer and set priorities to chats
- Quick Add: it’s now much easier to add people to chats
- Mood message chat: see mood message updates from your friends as chat messages
- Large profile pictures: just like Skype 4.0 Beta 2 for Windows, you can now use images of up to 256 x 256 pixels
- Hidden avatars in incoming contact requests: a small minority of Skype users have profile pictures which others may find unpleasant, and so they’re now hidden by default in contact requests
- Add notes to contacts: you can add notes to a contact in their profile window - handy for keeping track of who’s who.

Skype has announced a version of its application for Google Android and says an iPhone Skype program isn’t far behind, reports the Denver Post.

“Skype’s iPhone application is still under development. Engineers are still working on cutting the amount of power the application consumes.” says Scott Durschlag, Skype’s chief operating officer.

It is unclear whether Apple will allow Skype to utilize 3G for calls. Apple has baned VOIP Internet applications from connecting to the cellular network, leaving them functional only when the user is using Wi-Fi.

Seemingly cementing a move first hinted at during the World Wide Developers Conference, Apple has filed for a trademark for its OS X operating system but without the "Mac" prefix that has accompanied the name since its inception.

The Cupertino-based company initially filed for its trademark in Trinidad and Tobago less than a week after the June 2008 conference, where lobby banners first indicated a split where Apple would distinguish between OS X Leopard, the version of its operating system for traditional computers, and OS X iPhone, the modified platform that supports both its namesake cellphone and the iPod touch.

The software label also passed through a southeast Asian trademark office in November, but as of this writing remains under review.

Apple's reasons for trademarking at this stage aren't entirely clear, though the most conspicuous is its current product strategy: as many of its devices are running some variant of the FreeBSD-based software but operating well outside the bounds of ordinary Macs, the company may be under some self-imposed pressure to rebrand its flagship software in a way that allows it to enforce its trademarks without tying itself to a particular software revision or product line.

A formality in trademark would also mirror steps to rebrand the company itself that were first reveled when chief executive Steve Jobs took to the stage to introduce the original iPhone in January 2007. With the Apple TV in the living room and the iPhone in people's pockets, the executive argued that it was time for the company to alter its name and drop the "Computer" badge to become Apple Inc., reflecting its new general technology focus.

Still, the potential trademark change represents a formal break from tradition for a company that, in 1999, deliberately kept the "Mac OS" badge for its radically altered operating system to maintain familiarity -- a move the company may no longer feel is necessary today.

One of the things I thought the iPhone would do off the bat was have the Clock application icon be animated reflecting the actual time. Of course, that was not the case, until now…
LiveTime simply does just that, animates the Clock application’s icon to reflect the actual time. Simple, neat.

Reflective docks are now possible via Cydia. Just add http://david.ashman.com/apt/ to your sources in Cydia.

N.B. you would also see WeatherIcon added after adding the source. Do not download this as it crashes iPhones/iPod touches for whatever reason

Guys check out this app it's really useful if you want to populate your phone contacts with their associated facebook pics. Saves a lot of time.

Yesterday I wrote about the reflective dock (which is now available in case you didn’t know) by adding the http://david.ashman.com/apt repo to Cydia. The problem at the time was the also added WeatherIcon which crashed iPhones/iPod touches. Well it did anyway. It has since been upgraded so now the crashing issues are no longer there so long as you install version 1.1.1 or higher (1.2 was available at last check).
Its configuration, in a sense, is quite extensive. So this is where I’ll let AppleiPhoneSchool.com’s Brooke take over.
Note: This afternoon, I had an issue where when I selected the Weather Icon option in WinterBoard, it did not change the weather icon to a blank weather icon instead it added the new weather image and temp on top of my stock icon which looked absolutely terrible. If you are also having this issue, uninstall and reinstall the app in Cydia. Example screenshot below.

Ok, now, there are a few catches. When the app is not activated in WinterBoard, it adds a ? on top of your weather icon. The only way to get rid of the ? is to always have the app activated or to uninstall it. Example screenshot below.

The other catch…the app does not automatically detect your current location, you will need to change the zip code in the .plist to your current zip code. If you are comfortable with ssh, this is an easy thing to do. Below are instructions.

1. Find the file Library/Themes/Weather Icon.theme/Bundles/com.apple.springboard/com.ashman.WeatherIcon.plist on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

2. Open the com.ashman.WeatherIcon.plist file. Below is what it will look like.
