that's the 3G version, the firmware number is 1,2

the 3GS version is 2,1 which would not work on anything besides the 3GS

the 2G is 1,1

Dev-Team update

Big week!

As anyone reading this blog must already know, this is the big week where Apple releases their official 3.0 FW to the public (Wednesday), and then the new iPhone2,1 hardware, aka the iPhone 3GS (Friday).

On Tuesday evening (just before the big Apple release) we’ll do a live demo of the yellowsn0w carrier unlock working on official 3.0 firmware. The actual link for the feed will be twittered by @MuscleNerd (see our twitter feeds to the right) and also placed here when the feed starts. The demo should answer everything you need to know about the new yellowsn0w. But it’s good news for iPhone 3G unlockers everywhere.

Meanwhile, we’re in the middle of testing our PwnageTool and QuickPwn tools, which will work with iTunes 8.2. The jailbreak of course continues to work on 3.0 for all devices it ever worked on, thanks due the Pwnage 2.0 technique released last summer. Our tools will be released no sooner than the Apple release (just in case!).

P.S. For the new iPhone 3GS, please don’t expect periodic updates about any progress we have or don’t have. Nothing gives Apple the upper hand like someone tweeting or blogging or partial hack results. That’s not how cat & mouse is played Smile

well took a while for them to release yellowsn0w, hopefully the 3GS would be similar to the 3G and will be able to unlock in a similar way so we wont have to wait long.

most likely not though, Apple would keep making them harder to unlock so we might have to wait a while for the 3GS unlock...

always preferred a software unlock than using turbo sim/rebel sim and whatever else there is.

right now my sister has a 3G patiently waiting for the software unlock this week because the turbo sim just doesnt work again...

yep. well 3G's bought up until the present time.

no guarantee that 3G's bought after the new yellowsn0w is released would work.

the Dev-Team has already confirmed that they have a new version of yellowsn0w that would unlock the new firmware and baseband on the 2G/3G.

the demo is later tonight and the release would most likely be tomorrow along with the new pwnage and quickpwn tools...

BL version is irrelevant. that was only an issue with the current unlock because the 2.30 baseband could not be unlocked.

however a way to downgrade the baseband from 2.30 was found but could only be done on phones with the 5.08 BL

the new unlock will unlock FW 3.0 and its latest baseband no matter what BL version.

u would have to upgrade to 3.0 then use the unlock. it will only work for the 3.0FW

If this is the case then we might as well consider the new 3Gs unlocked as of now.
