I have an Octavia and would like to get some more performance outta it. I am considering getting a Golf Gti engine and swapping it in. From all the research that i have done this is plausible. However, i believe that i can't get this engine and if i do, i believe that it will be costly to get.
So my next alternative is to swap the very popular SR20 DET. I am asking you guys if 1. Has anyone done this? 2. If so does japanese wiring work with the european because i was told this may become a problem?
Any information you guys may have is greatly appreciated because i don't want to sell the car but i would like to bump the power from the 1.6.....

hmm..check around first..there are a few 1.8 turbocharged vw engines in trinidad. someone may have one for sale from a crashed car etc.
sr will get on bad and ting but its alot of work and stress to convert plus there will be bugs to work out for a while after install.

The AEE and AEH engines are like paper internally. Not ideal for boosting.
Furthermore unless you have cluster, key transponder, immobiliser and matching ECU from the doner car with 1.8T, you not going anywhere.
Vehicles like these are better off left alone, sold and then you can upgrade to a more sportier model.

Do you have Octavia I or II? either way there are remaps for the ECU... you dont get a whole lot but it's quite a noticeable difference in performance and fuel consumption...

http://www.rstuning.co.uk/chiptuning.php

http://www.tunemyecu.com/skoda.htm

these are UK sites but DIY remap software and maps are sold. So if you can link up with a good local Euro mechanic or euro parts supplier you can ask em!

If you go the way of a remap it is advisable that you complete other engine, suspension, braking upgrades 1st as the remap will put additional stress on these parts and stock may not hold up too long!

Hope it helps some!

this is also a helpful link below:
