Having a problem when I start up on mornings.

Getting a very rough idle and a loud rattle coming from the engine. More on the left side.

This continues till the engine warms up to normal operating temp then everything smooths out. But the rattle is still noticeable afterward.

Any ideas as to what this could be?

left side of the engine as in closer to the transmission? If u mean the other left look at timing chain and tensioner.

else

sounds like a tappet, lifter, valve kinda problem. maybe a bad lifter or they need bleeding. Have you had this head apart?

take off the tappet cover and take a look. U can do a compression test as well to see if u might have valve problems, but its best to take off the tappet cover and look, turn over the engine a couple times with the cover off.

check the T/B as well to see if one of the screws get away.

^^^ i agree with the timing chain/tensioner if its on the drivers side u hearing the noise. SR's have a tendency for their timing chain to rattle when u now start on mornings until the oil picks up.. just for safety, check to see if your oil level is good.

Still check your engine/transmission mounts just to be safe.
