Whatever is reflecting in the side windows is giving it a carbon fibre weave look, at least in MG Man's mind.

close.....it is a Group4 homologation special.. Gp4 was the precursor to GpB

THe silver car is a Vauxhall Chevette HSR, which was an evolution of the Chevette HS

The Vauxhall Chevette was the successor to Vauxhall's bread and butter Viva model. It came as a 4 door sedan, 2 door sedan, hatchback, estate, and panel van (Chevanne) Standard Chevettes came with a 1256cc engine. When Vauxhall decided to go rallying, it stuffed its 2279cc 4 cylinder engine into the little hatch, complete with a Lotus-derived 16 valve head. The HS body kit inclided flared wheel arches and air dam.

Vauxhall did an evolution version of the HS, calling it the HSR. The HSr had a widebody kit, huge front air dam, modified bonnet, and custom tailgate, all in fibreglass. The engine got two 48mm Dellorto side drafts, tubular exhaust, and 5 speed Getrag gearbox, transmitting power via a torque tube to a live five-link rear axle. The rally cars had extensive headwork, and put out around 240bhp, while the homologated street cars got a standard head and 150bhp.

Only 16 works rallycars were built, and 34 street cars, of which only 29 are known to exist.

The car pictured above was converted to R-spec in 1981 and shipped here. It is unique in that it was specially ordered with black recaro seats, and had the rear seats upholstered to match, all coachwork done by Wood and Pickett in Liverpool. It was also fitted with a Blaupunkt cassette deck........

The widebody kit was designed by GM stylist Wayne Cherry, and was actually wind tunnel tested. When launched, it was predicted that the style would last 20 years........people keep asking me where I get the Subaru . Evo7 / Fast and Furious Civic kit Confused I tell them ah fella in Debe make it for me
