Kajim and his son went all out to help James betts and our team last year for rally trinidad and james snapped an axle and we had to do a complete swap by his home at 2 am. He went to great lengths to make sure we got all the parts we needed including waking up the owner of constant velocity at some un Godly hour to make us, yes make us an axle so that we could run the next morning.
I spoke to James Betts and on behalf of our team, our hearts go out to Kajim and his family. We hope that God is merciful and grants us our prayers answered and give him a speedy recovery.
This is very shocking news but our hearts and prayers are with him and his family. |

I have known Bashir for over 25 years. I remember once back in 1988 I crashed my Laser and wrecked the rear suspension. The car was parked up at my home and as I was fresh out of UWI I had limited $$$ to get it repaired.
One Sunday morning Bashir pulled up in my front yard, opened the trunk of his 120Y and pulled out a jack, some stands and a whole set of tools and together we stripped the rear suspension, drove all around South to find the replacement parts at various scrap yards. It took all day but we got the car back on the road. Bashir did not accept any payment from me and did all of this on his only day off from work.
He is a true friend. |

Bashir's sister and family (mother, father, brother-in-law, nephew and niece) deeply appreciate all the sentiments posted. We feel honoured by this tribute which truly expresses Bashir's love for the sport , love for cars and his love for his friends. We are grateful for your prayers. He is still in a coma and on life-support. We would like you all to continue rallying around the family. Your support means everything to Bashir and his family. Thank you all
"Get well soon little brother!" |

Irshaad, Wesly here. James and bajan rally boys wish you and your family the world of hope and prayer. You need to be strong for family. Your dad is one of the few genuine people left in the world and I honestly don't think God is gonna take him just yet. He and all of you are in our prayers.
keep your head up Irshaad. |

I just remembered another funny incident with Bashir that I thought I should post. This also took place in the late 1980's......
I remember one night we drove his B1600 pick-up to Maraval to tow down a Holden Commodore belonging to one of his customers. Coming back south I was driving the pickup and he was in the Commodore. Part way down I decided to turn on the hazard lights on the pickup. Shortly after I saw the head-lights in the Commodore blinking but I didn't pay any attention.
When we finally arrived back home in San Fernando Bashir came out of the Commodore swearing up and down the road. Apparently the hazard lights on the pickup were blinking directly in his eyes all the way down the hwy and gave him a headache. He was blinking to get me to turn them off, but of course I didn't realise this. Afterwards we both had a good laugh at this.
Of course cell phones were not yet invented otherwise he could have called me on my cell and ask me to turn off the hazard lights.....

I visited him today Thursday 10th April, at the request of his wife and we stayed until visiting time was up at 12:30 pm. We did take some rally tapes and played them close to his ears. I also had some digital camera recordings of several of the Rally cars from RT08 at the finish area, which was even more effective and we also played this.
Then there was one I have with his little daughter jumping up and playing with him, and this we also played repeatedly so he could have heard her voice.
Regretfully on my way back home, Karima called me to give me the sad news.
We must thank God for the time he allowed Bashir to be with us, to meet and mix with so many in so many different spheres of life, and now pray for his wife and three young kids, his mother and father and sister and all his other family.
Peace to you, my Brother. |
