|
|
So I thought I'd post my reviews of my newly acquired Sunline Racing GTSpec (X) 60RRS (Race-ready ) Swift Sport exhaust. This is the second axleback exhaust I've run on my Swift Sport to date.
Purchase notes:
1) Purchased from Sunline Racing (in Japan) directly. For those who may not know, Sunline racing is one of those "pure-bred racing" Japanese tuning shops, that does mainly time attack cars, and mods for Nissans, and Suzukis (to name a few).
2) Mr Taiyo Sato (director) was very willing to assit with the purchase (despite his limited capacity in the English Language ). Expedient service.....and he was helpful in choosing the right exhaust for my needs.
Product notes:
1) Excellent product. =...muffler is HUGE (almost like a thigh ).....thick stainless steel flanges.....straight through design, lovely tapered tip with a slant cut that matches the rear valence.
2) It's a SINGLE exhaust. This is different from my last aftermarket exhaust (dual outlet to fit the stock dual exhaust bumper with), or the stock exhaust (also dual tipped). The exhaust is significantly lighter than BOTH two exhausts, and according to Mr. Sato, it's benefit lies in the top end range.
3) Direct bolt on application....easy to install. ONly difficulty came from mouting it on the stock midpipe flange - studs maybe a bit too short....will look into that over the weekend.
Thoughts on my first use
1) Definitely louder than stock, yet a little quieter than my former axleback exhaust on lower RPMS. It sounds "fierce" once you get in the 3-4K rpm range....and takes off from there.
2) There is a slight change in acceleration response (in gear) at 5K+.....I expect the difference to become more marked as the ECU adjusts to the new exhaust.
3) Will most likely get a free flow centrepipe (decatted....also from SLR) to match the axleback...to get some extra punch in the top end.

Some more pics, and a sound clip:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ecYmmA9tMUg&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param></object>
Nice (and large) pipework for good flow. Strong flanges as well. Ready made hangers go without saying
Installed:
AS can be seen from the pic above^^^the design of the 60RRS is a fundamentally BETTER exhaust design than the stock dual tip w/ horizontal muffler.
The stock ZC31S midpipe (and header) follow a pretty straight rununder the car with no major change in direction......the main area of possible turbulence would be the stock...HUGE muffler which bends exhaust flow at 90 deg before exit. Good for silencing...but bad for top end power. This 60RRS keeps the straight through design for the best flow....
....SLR also uses a similar design for their max power S13/4 and 350Z race ready exhausts. |

^^Nope. Diameter is too big. Sunline sells the GTspec 50RRS for the 1.5 cars.....smaller diameter with a more conservative muffler.
They even sell a single to dual ended conversion for guys with 1/5's who've put on a swift sport rear bumper
According to Taiyo Sato, this muffler fits around the stock GLX spare tyre too......

^^Actually, that clip is pretty crappy. It's alot bassier than the youtube vid lets on......I took that with a glorified camera phone
DIfference is mainly on high rpms. Barely got to do any driving on it (collected it today and installed this afternoon)....but I figure as I drive more, and the ECU adjusts to it, we'll see how the low end goes as well.

Hardly. You'd think (and ppl say) that shipping costs alot.............
........shipping from Japan by air freight sometimes works out cheaper than even buying from the US (providing the item isn't too large).
Lets just say folks pay more (than this cost) for brand name catbacks for their Evos and STi's.
I won't let on as to how much it really cost me...as I really don't want to step on any toes.

^^Not from what I've seen. The ZC31S is actually Sunline Racing's first Suzuki project car. Before they focused on Silvias, Z's, wide body R34's etc.
Fujitsubo is one of the only manf'rs that makes an aftermarket exhaust for the HT81S. There are supposed to be a 1 or 2 others.......
Of course....that's assuming you're a brand-name junkie / wanna be tuner like I am. |

^^
Yup...I was actually wondering about that I'm guessing I'm one of the few that actually HAS a sunline exhaust on their SS in trinidad (if not the only one ). True they do cost some $$$......but as I said, I prefer to pay the cash for good stuff from the get go....which is why I'm a brand name junkie with both cars. Nothing but.
I might be working on some other parts later on....if time allows. I'll have to see how that turns out.

5000 km logged since install.
1) My only real update really has been that I recommend re-using the OE nuts for the install, as the sunline supplied nuts have a longer "depth", and so, will not have full engagement with the stock midpipe flange (which has the bolts welded in)
If going with the sunline midpipe however, you'd need to use their supplied regular bolt and nut setup.
2) A cheap way to stiffen up exhaust hangers would be to put a piece of silicone hose (like a little flap) in between the "middle gap" of the exhaust hanger. Helps reduce movement.....short of buying stiffer/poly exhaust hangers that is |
