in a ported box its more easier for a sub to overexcur..only at the tuning freq would excursion be minimal

whereas in a sealed enclosure there is a vacuum that acts with the suspension(spider and surround) to control excursion

and at the freq people tune their boxes at overexcusion is common ie damaged subs..ask them if they were using sealed boxes

well i've seen people use sealed boxes and damage subs b4 due to one main fact-

a sealed box has less output than a ported box,so most people try to over drive their subs to get it louder, thus over excursion occurs

but also, from watching subs, in both ported and sealed boxes, the sub in the sealed boxes look like they move alot more than those in ported boxs, just my opinion though,i could be wrong

yes good valid point, i agree totally wrt output ... rather than saying the sub have low excursion or someone else said something about the sub having a long 'throw'

Correct also at tuning freq the ported box would excur less...thus explaining the excursion of the sealed........but under the tuning freq its another story

so once the user has a box tailored to their music then no probs

not tailore to their music but to their needs, som people need trunk space and want a 12" solution is a sealed box while som like nothing better than to get as loud as possible with the trunk being deemed as a *subwoofer compartment* rather that a *storage compartment* lol

most trini's like a bass between 35hz and 80hz from what i've seen, and most like to fit as much speakers as possible in their trunk also

so it all depends on the customer's needs, not the music he plays(as boxes can vary)

lol...both jeff and ssc have very valid points... of which i kno of in repect to sub enclosures..

i think thats the main reason i stick 2 manufacturer's specs.

the box it goin to be 2.995 internal cuft..made of 3/4" mdf ( not the soft whitish one ) with a 2.5" port tuned too 34hz....... braced
