|
|
sup guys...
i kno my threads are being sent to the ole talk...so i hope this doesnt end up there either..
but i wanted to kno.. if i cannot build a sealed box for my RE SX 15" instead of a ported... i have noted, that the RE XXX has a box size and everything for ported, but RE doesnt recommend one for the SX...
can someone who has experience with this sub tell me if its possible to do sealed or not ????????
i have a plan for a 3.0cuft (after L port) tuned to 34hz .. but i dont mind trying sealed.. i`ll play around with winisd later. but can someone help me out here?
** update **
just used Winisd there and they recommend a 1.648cuft box, "closed" .
if anyone wants the t/s file for the RE..i`ll just upload it and yall can try it and see if help is possible |

ok chiney leh mih give yuh some advice..... D sx series strictly recommends dat yuh use a ported box bcause of d 4 inches of throw from d coil and cone so it needs lots of air to produce dat mellow but deep bass but b very careful how yuh porting d box cause you can make d woofer lose d bass. but yuh can take d chance with d box sealed....but I prefer d box ported |

yeah it have more throw sx but there r ways to manipulate d sx for it to work like d xxx
yuh doh know how to experiment with boxes until u come up with d perfect box???
dat is wat i always do??? dat is wat all audio addicts do....experiment dude..experiment. |

Chiney,
I think the SX has a problem with over excursion, hence the sealed box is not recommended..
Ported boxes reduce cone movement to a minimal around the tuning frequency hence why RE suggested 33htz as the desired tuning frequency.
In a sealed box, cone excursion is pushed to the limits at these very low frequencies but are kept in proper phase and alignment due to acoustic coupling. Hence sealed boxes are said to be best for SQ
If the RE cannot hold itself together @ these lower frequencies it could result in the coil riding out of the gap and probably knocking resulting in coil failure..
I would say go with the ported enclosure....especially if u goin and fully power up the sub..

^^ not really... I'm just trying to explain why RE specifically didn't recommend a sealed box.
Don't want chiney doin anythin outta d norm and destroying his sub.. I know he's gonna be fully powering it up so it's better to be safe than sorry because it is a substantial investment..
IMHO, for SQ, sealed boxes FTW, but with the SX i dunno if that holds up..... |

yea but I'm 1000% sure the enclosures were ported
Chiney, email me the T/S for the RE and i'll see what i could organize for you |

hey... just woke back up again
de rain fault eh!
good points by the 2... seems to convince me to go with the ported..
heres the file for the RE T/s for Winisd ..
paste it into the "drivers" folder in the Winisd directory..

just an observation ...too many opinions seem to be posted rather than tech talk i assume
efficiency bandwidth product = fs over qes
if under 50 sub leans ...towards sealed box,
greater or equal to 100 ..towards ported
in between can go either way
then you can use the qts vas and fs to determine for different sizes the qtc your enclosure...it will tell you for what size of box what kind of response you will get
ie a very loww 12 db roll off or a peaky boom at 40/50 which most like in a car |

hmmm....i would go ported one time and tune 33hz
if RE didnt recommend a sealed box, it must be for a good reason |

to answer your question yes it can play in a sealed box
based on the theiles Alone the sealed response seems to be very favourable based on a sq perspective wrt box size and low freq extension
but from the type of system you are building and based on your threads i suggest you go Ported and you will get what you are looking for. |

hmm ok i hear u eh jeff
just to note
my system specs are :
hifonics bass..
crunch mids..
Diamond Audio D3 comps
PG Octane R comps.
15" RE SX Sub...
not goin for a gallery system at all
i must be able to sit in the car..and get my music in my face! clean... loud...and the bass must blend and not overwhelm the vocals and highs ...
so ported then for sure right? |

i really love what u get off a sealed box eh but its something to notice for a company to NOT rec u seal their sub so they probably have their reason
IMO u can still try d sealed since its d easiest thing to make & would only cost u like 3\4 sheet mdf to find out but look at how d sub moving & how much power it will take b4 bottoming out or excursioning too much .... |

| the re sx's coil is actually quite short, and can move out of the gap easily in a sealed box due to over-excursion |
