Okay, I'm very new to the SQi as far as competing goes but I was reading the IASCA Sound Quality Judging Rules and I have this question.

It relates to the section on Stage Height where, and I quote,

"Stage height refers to the apparent height of the sound stage and the vertical spread above that level. The center of the vertical spread of the stage should be at horizon level with appropriate instruments/vocalists being above or below this plane from left to right of the stage."

and also...

"Systems with good stage height properties will produce a
stable sound stage at horizon level with a natural sense of vertical
space above that point. Instruments and voices should sound
complete and whole at that height with no portion of them coming
from below the sound stage floor."

My question then is:

So the stage is set using the horizon level of the particular vehicle. This is set according to the person tuning the system. Should the Judge be of a height that is ad variant to the person who tuned the system (say by at least 4 vertical inches up or down), would this give a different sense of spatial sound on the vertical plane, and thus be a subjective property?

Mr. Green

will respond when i get time to type it out

check my thread on the iasca cd breakdown in the meantime

the competitor is allowed to make adjustments to the seat based on the height of the judge compared to the competitors height

sound stage should be above the dashboard

keep in mind the same judge judges the entire category so it will rule out differences in subjectivity for the entire category
