Hey fellas, i have a 98 SiR, I getting an occasional problem, not sure what it is. Generally the a car will idle smooth and nice with a constant rpm, then all of a sudden the idle will just drop to the 600 + rpm range. This morning while on my way to work i stopped at a traffic light and the idle dropped low and then the engine shut off and the next traffic light it started to idle real low again and was about to shut off again but i revved a bit. The ting it, most of the time the car works just fine, this just happens now and again. not everyday.

get a diagnostic done. Could be fuel filter, fuel pump or ignition system including plugs. Experienced this once and it was the fuel filter...badly clogged

Might also be the TPS, or the idle air control valve. Disconnect the TPS and see if the contacts are dirty. clean it out with some contact cleaner anyway.

stock ecu no checklights. dred the ting that makes me think it is a sensor or it is electrical is that it something that is not constant but more intermittent. I also recognised that when idling funny(low) , all of a sudden like it would just re gain a proper idle and idle smooth.

is good to check your spark plug as well, there are several contributing factors that can cause an idle problem. i once saw some one brakes booster was bad and it was giving that same trouble.
